Ascot Tips: Appleby runner can go well on Friday

Eight race meetings take place across the UK and Ireland on Friday, so you are not short of options when it comes to having a punt. I like the look of the six-race card on offer at Ascot, and I have picked out three selections that you may want to consider.

I return to this racecourse with form, with my last Ascot-specific tips landing, so I'm feeling the pressure for Friday. Read on to find out my latest Ascot Tips.

14:25 Ascot - Time To Turn @ 7/2

This Listed race looks to be an interesting battle in what is the second serving of the day. Seven runners are declared for this one over 7f and all horse have claims here, so I wouldn't begrudge anyone favouring any of them on Friday.

In my opinion, I think TIME TO TURN for Charlie Appleby's yard could offer good value, who landed his maiden success as the heavy favourite at Wolverhampton (AW) in June in what was his first outing over 7f.

The two-year-old colt posted second-place finishes in his first two starts at Haydock (6f) and Newbury (6 1/2f), having also been the bookies' favourite on both occasions. There's a lot to like about this horse and after triumphing at Wolverhampton, Appleby and connections will be looking to see more from him on his first visit to Ascot.

Will Buick has been on board for all three starts so far, and this partnership will continue on Friday. Appleby has saddled four of the past six winners in this race, so Time To Turn has strong claims here, as well as a lot of pressure.

15:00 Ascot - Fireblade @ 5/1

FIREBLADE has largely been consistent in his four starts since joining Dylan Cunha's yard at the end of March. The four-year-old got off to a flying start at Leicester (1m 4f), winning by a length.

There was a setback as he finished seventh of 10 at Ascot in the following appearance, so Cunha will be hoping he can deliver an improved performance on Friday. The gelding has stepped up to 1m 6f in his last two outings at Sandown and finished second on both occasions, one in a field of five and the other 10.

Friday will be his first experience over 2m in this Class 3 handicap, which on current form was worth exploring. Ground conditions are looking similar to his past two rides at Sandown, so he looks to be a strong player.

16:10 Ascot - Thurso @ 5/1

The penultimate race of the day is where I round off my selections. This is a Class 4 handicap over 7f and a stacked field of 13 has been declared. THURSO is who I have my eye on in this one, although I do also like the look of Stratocracy and Arantes Nascimento.

The three-year-old has a record of 2311 since being gelded, with the victories coming in his last two appearances at Haydock and Chepstow (both 6f). Returns to this trip having had a forgettable record last season but he has form and momentum behind him, which suggests that we will see improvement.

This is his first visit at Ascot but Richard Hughes' runner heads here in very strong form and I expect him to be there or thereabouts on Friday. One to keep a close eye on.
