Lucky 15 Tips: Akkadian Thunder to rumble at Newmarket

The final day of Newmarket’s July Festival is the feature on Saturday and there is plenty more top racing action on offer in the UK and across the Irish sea, too. 

Below are my Lucky 15 Tips from all the action to choose from, with selections from Newmarket, York, Ascot and Salisbury.

14:50 Newmarket – Akkadian Thunder @ 5/1

Wokingham runner-up More Thunder is likely to go off as favourite for the Bunbury Cup but it could be his bigger-priced semi-namesake Akkadian Thunder who steals his thunder at Newmarket. 

The son of Night Of Thunder put in a similarly impressive run at Royal Ascot, finishing second in the 27-runner Buckingham Palace Stakes two days before More Thunder’s Wokingham effort, and looks to be well ahead of the assessor. 

Akkadian Thunder’s future mark is 4lb higher than his current rating of 99 and he should make the most of this opportunity, with the booking of William Buick set to provide an added boost. 

15:10 York – Fox Legacy @ 11/1

York’s John Smith’s Cup is always an intriguing race and, as ever, this year’s renewal looks an open affair. However, there is one standout contender among the 18 remaining runners in the form of Fox Legacy.  

The son of Lope De Vega raced through the centre in last month’s Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot before catching the eye with a strong final two furlongs to lead his group of seven and eventually finish a respectable sixth of 30. 

Fox Legacy won over 1m1f at Newmarket on his seasonal/stable debut prior to that and the nature of his strong finish at the Royal meeting means this increase in trip to 1m2½f could be right up his alley, especially as he represents connections who won this in 2019 and 2021 in trainer Andrew Balding and owners King Power Racing. 

15:30 Ascot – Electrifarhh @ 5/1

This looks a trappy heat, with all but one of the eight runners (Queen Of Atlantis) arriving following a career-best effort, but it is one that can go the way of Electrifarhh. 

She was beaten four lengths into second last time in a Windsor novice but that run came after a 222-day break and when conceding 6lb to the winner Blue Bolt. 

The Juddmonte-owned winner has franked that form, too, winning a competitive Sandown Listed race last Saturday and Electrifarhh should go well on her handicap debut.  

17:40 Salisbury – My Boy Jack @ 4/1

There is some decent evening action from Salisbury and the competitive five-runner opener at the Wiltshire venue looks likely to go the way of My Boy Jack. 

It seems only a matter of time before the son of No Nay Never finally breaks his Flat duck and after finishing second, third and second on his three runs this summer, he may finally do so at the 18th time of asking. 

The latest of those efforts came over 6f and he was beaten by only a head. Back over that trip at Salisbury, he should go well again.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
