Football Bet of the Day: Uzbekistan provides the value

We’ve got more Women’s European Championship action coming our way on Thursday as favourites for the tournament Spain take to the pitch for the first time, but for our Football Bet of the Day we are once again casting our net further afield. 

This time, the Uzbekistan Super League has caught my eye as the bottom of the table side, FC Shurtan, face Qizilqum (16:00). Below you can find my Football Bet of the Day. 

Now I’m not usually one to back a team that sits bottom of the table 14 games into the season to win, but I am going to buck the trend here as struggling FC Shurtan offer excellent value. Now, here’s the bad bit. 

They have lost nine out of the 14 league matches this season, and have amassed just nine points during this time, meaning that they sit at the foot of the Uzbekistan Super League and are at severe risk of relegation this term.

However, all is not lost. Shurtan have found a bit of form of late and they’ve only lost two of their last eight in all competitions. The top-flight outfit have won two of their last three and have now got themselves back in the fight, as they are just three points away from their nearest rivals in the relegation battle. 

Goalscoring has been a real issue as they’ve only scored seven league goals in 14 matches this term, but they have scored 10 in their last two cup appearances, while they’ve also found the net three times in their last two league outings. I think they’ve turned a corner, and they are coming up against a team that are struggling to find wins right now.

Qizilqum have dropped to 12th, having accumulated 14 points from their 14 matches, but they’ve only won once more than Thursday’s opponents. Fun fact, Qizilqum in Uzbek means ‘red sands’ and the team is named after the biggest desert in Central Asia. 

But on the pitch they’ve hit somewhat of a dry spell, failing to win in their last nine matches - including two games in the cup. They’ve lost three and drawn three of their last six, a run of form that has dragged them back into the relegation battle. 

Now up against a Shurtan side that has turned a corner and is looking to get themselves off the bottom of the table, I think there’s good value in backing them to lose again. Qizilqum have been priced up as the 5/6 favourites to win this game, which I don’t think is quite right given the form of the two teams.

As a result, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Fay is FC Shurtan to beat Qizilqum @ 11/4.
