Lucky 15 Tips: Four tips to follow on Monday

Monday marks the eve of Royal Ascot and whilst the quality isn’t out of this world, we do have five competitive fixtures to look forward to across Britain and Ireland. Carlisle and Chepstow provide the afternoon entertainment, whilst a Jumps card from Kilbeggan and two Flat meetings from Windsor and Wolverhampton take us through the evening.

We’ve picked out four strong fancies to follow and they can be combined to form our Lucky 15 tips. They include a last-time-out winner for David and Nicola Barron at Carlisle that has plenty of scope for further improvement.

15:30 Chepstow – Romanovich @ 5/2

John O’Shea’s ROMANOVICH returned to winning ways with a cosy victory here over a furlong shorter last time out, which was his third course success. It was a career-best performance off a mark of 58 and the handicapper has responded with a 4lb rise.

Good to soft ground is perfect for the six-year-old, as he’s unbeaten in two starts on it, and the return to a mile shouldn’t be a problem.

The son of Dark Angel has won over as far as an extended mile at Wolverhampton in the past and he had more in hand last time out than the official winning margin suggests.

17:25 Carlisle – Swift Salian @ 7/2

SWIFT SALIAN was an impressive winner of a nursery at Doncaster in his two-year-old days and that three-and-a-half-length success came off a 1lb lower mark.

He was a little disappointing the following season but has returned to form with some decent runs this year.

It was a fair effort when beaten by just a neck at Thirsk two starts ago and he went one better with a cosy success at Hamilton over an extended mile. Making all the running, the son of Holy Roman Emperor was strong at the finish and a 3lb rise is very reasonable.

There’s every reason to believe that the stiff 1m1f trip could suit and he has scope for further improvement this season.

19:30 Windsor – Stanley Spencer @ 9/4

Windsor’s feature race is a competitive 6f handicap and James Tate’s runner STANLEY SPENCER could be the one to side with. He won three times over 6f last season and remains lightly raced enough to suggest that there could be more to come.

Tate’s gelding wasn’t beaten far when finishing third at Southwell on seasonal debut and he faded in the final few yards, suggesting he could improve for the run. It’s noted that the handicapper has left his mark alone and a victory could be on the cards this time around.

20:00 Windsor – Don Pacifico @ 4/1

Simon & Ed Crisford’s DON PACIFICO has only had three starts in handicap company so far, which means we probably haven’t seen the best of him yet.

This son of Night Of Thunder bolted up in a Southwell novice in December and finished third under a penalty at Lingfield after that.

A couple of below-par displays in handicap company followed but it was a much better effort when second to a progressive sort at Haydock when last seen. A 2lb rise won’t make too much difference and further progress is anticipated.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
