Lucky 15 Tips: Four strong fancies on Sunday

We have five meetings to look forward to across Britain and Ireland on Sunday and there are 11 races scheduled to be televised live on ITV. Doncaster gets us underway and is swiftly followed by Gowran, Downpatrick, Salisbury and Hamilton.

We’ve picked out four strong fancies to follow across the afternoon and they include a lightly raced four-year-old for William Haggas who could still have scope for further improvement, having returned to winning ways last time out. Read on for my Lucky 15 tips on Sunday.

16:05 Doncaster - Mount King @ 11/4

This is an interesting puzzle to unlock and Tim Easterby’s MOUNT KING could be the answer. The five-year-old returned to winning ways at Pontefract last time out and he was well in command at the finish, scoring by just shy of two lengths.

He managed to win off today's mark of 67a couple of years ago so it shouldn’t be beyond him, despite the fact that a 5lb rise seems a little harsh for that recent success. Easterby’s gelding has been consistent on the whole this season and should go close here.

16:45 Hamilton - Sam Hawkens @ 5/2

William Haggas runs the relatively lightly raced SAM HAWKENS and the four-year-old was a cosy winner in handicap company at Newcastle last time out. The assessor has responded with a 7lb rise, which may not be enough to prevent the follow up.

That’ll effectively be a 4lb rise, as jockey Harry Burns takes 3lb off this time around. It was also a fair effort when fourth at Ripon on his seasonal debut but he was clearly in need of the run so it’s no surprise that he took a big step forward from that performance.

The trip is likely to suit this son of Galileo, and William Haggas’ only other runner at Hamilton this season won, which bodes well for Sam Hawkens’ chances.

17:00 Salisbury - Crimson Spirit @ 5/2

CRIMSON SPIRIT won a Class 2 maiden at Epsom as a juvenile but took a while to get the hang of things in handicap company. The penny finally started to drop last season and he finished second and third in a couple of Epsom handicaps in August and September.

Third over this trip at York on his seasonal debut, he stuck to his task well enough but maybe wasn’t at full sharpness. Improvement seems likely now and he should be capable of winning in handicap company sooner or later.

17:15 Hamilton - Bergerac @ 11/2

Kevin Ryan’s BERGERAC is probably slightly better t 5f than 6f and he’s a four-time winner over this trip. Consistency perhaps isn’t his forte but he’s more than capable of running a big race here. The son of Kodi Bear returned to form with a solid second in a better race at York last time out and reappears off the same mark.

Bergerac has won off higher marks at Newcastle and Southwell and converting that form to the turf is unlikely to be beyond him. Course form isn’t an issue either, as he has placed in two of his three starts at Hamilton.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
