The curragh racecourse

There are four Sunday race meetings across Britain and Ireland, as the Irish 1000 Guineas is joined by a trio of summer jumps offerings in the UK.

The Curragh boasts a double helping of Group 1 action, while National Hunt fans can look forward to Fontwell, Uttoxeter and Kelso for afternoon thrills and spills My three best bets for Sunday's racing are below, including last year's Irish Derby hero as he struts his stuff on the Curragh once more.

Horse Racing Tips - Sunday, May 25

  • 15:05 Curragh – Los Angeles @ 9/4
  • 16:08 Fontwell – Man Of The Sea @ 11/4

15:05 Curragh – Los Angeles @ 9/4

Last year's Irish Derby winner LOS ANGELES is now 2-2 at the Curragh after winning the Mooresbridge Stakes at this track on his seasonal return, with today's rival White Birch in second.

The winner was always doing enough in front and should be sharper for the run, while an extra half-furlong in this Group 1 contest only serves him well.

Aidan O'Brien identified this race as the next stopping point after that win 20 days ago, as he plots a long-term plan to get back to the Arc at Longchamp in the autumn.

Anmaat won the Qipco Champion Stakes last season at Ascot, a contest in which Los Angeles disappointed, but it came very quickly after his gallant Arc third. The Ballydoyle colt has race fitness on his side now aiming for revenge.

16:08 Fontwell – Man Of The Sea @ 11/4

A drop back in trip at Hereford last time didn't appear to suit MAN OF THE SEA and he was outpaced when it turned into a sprint for home.

He had run well at Taunton (2m3f, good to firm) previously and Neil Mulholland's charge had also scored on the Flat at Bath in April.

He is generally consistent over timber and this longer trip at a track where they can get racing a long way from home should suit, while Harriet Tucker takes off a very useful 7lb on his back.

Easy Worcester winner Dirty Den likely will head the betting but Man Of The Sea is a solid looking alternative.

16:15 Curragh – La Guapisima @ 11/1

It was quite the season for Gavin Cromwell over jumps and he'll be aiming to keep the bandwagon rolling on the Flat over the summer months.

He saddles up LA GUAPISIMA for the first time in this Spring Fillies Handicap over a mile and the ex-Christopher Head-trained French import looks to have been found a good starting point.

She was a Listed winner in France over 7f last summer and signed off for previous connections by finishing second in a Group 3 contest in Germany in October.

She has a consistent profile and a mark of 98 is in her range, while Robert Whearty can take 3lb off her top-weight burden. She takes on a quartet of last-time-out winners but should be some value to see them off.

16:15 Curragh - Winner La Guapisima
