Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton Prediction: 4/1 goalscorer catches the eye

Can you believe it? Tottenham Hotspur have won the Europa League and will be playing Champions League football next season. After their battling 1-0 success over Manchester United in Bilbao, we’ve seen huge celebrations from the team and fans, and rightly so.
They’ve waited 17 years for this moment, while most of their fanbase had never seen them lift a European trophy. They must now turn their attention to the final weekend of the Premier League, as they host Brighton (Sunday, 16:00). Below you can find my Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton predictions.

Team News
Which of the available Tottenham players has recovered from a night on the beers? That could well be the question Ange Postecoglou is asking himself in the coming days. With James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Bergvall all injured, he doesn’t have too many rotation options, and will surely want to play his best XI in order to avoid that embarrassing 17th-place finish.
Heung-min Son could come in to start on the left wing, with Archie Gray also looking for more minutes to round off the campaign. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have both have injury struggles and could be afforded the day off, with Kevin Danso ready to play if they do drop out.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton Stats
- Tottenham won the Europa League on Wednesday night
- Brighton have won three of their last four
- Ayari has scored two in his last four
Brighton may well name the same XI as the team that beat Liverpool last time out as Fabian Hurzeler looks to keep up their good form towards the end of the campaign. Danny Welbeck should lead the line once again up top, after Joao Pedro’s reported training ground altercation with Jan Paul van Hecke.
He may well have played his last game for the club, while two youngsters have continued to flourish in the form of Brajan Gruda and Yasin Ayari. It’s also worth keeping an eye on 17-year-old Harry Howell, who came off the bench against Liverpool and could be handed more minutes.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton Odds
Tottenham have been priced up at 3/1 to win this game on home soil after their efforts in midweek. Brighton are 8/11 to take the win, giving them an implied win probability of 58%, while a draw is 18/5.
Over 2.5 goals is just 1/3 while BTTS is 4/11, given the attacking capabilities of both outfits. Welbeck has scored 10 goals this season and is the 9/2 favourite to score first.
Draw @ 16/5
I know everybody will be thinking that Brighton will rock up and win this game at a canter, and that is also what the odds suggest. But I think Tottenham won’t be quite as easy to beat as they would have been had they lost the final. They have just received a gigantic boost in confidence and although the celebrations went long into the night, I believe that could help them out for Sunday’s clash.
They returned home on Thursday and will be back in training on Friday, so I’m not too worried about any potential hangover. Liverpool were seen partying in Dubai before they lost to Brighton, and I’m not sure Spurs will have been going quite that hard with just a couple of days until the end of their campaign.
Postecoglou won’t want to end the season on a defeat and so I believe his side can get a draw on the final day. He’s fighting for his job, and 22 losses in a Premier League season may just cost him his role. But the players like him, and he’s delivered Champions League football, so let’s wait and see what happens with the Aussie. I don’t think Brighton, despite their good form, will be able to roll Spurs over as everybody expects.

Yasin Ayari to score anytime @ 4/1
This game is expected to have plenty of goals in it, looking at the odds, so let’s pick out an anytime goalscorer. On the hunt for value, my eyes have been drawn to Brighton midfielder Ayari, who has emerged as a top talent this season.
After a failed loan spell at Coventry last term his future at the Seagulls looked uncertain, but he has managed to force his way into the first team picture under the new manager. Hurzeler is clearly a big fan of his, and he has stepped things up in recent weeks, scoring two goals in his last four games. That’s enough reason to back him to strike against this shaky Spurs defence.
