Draw - Borussia Monchengladbach vs Wolfsburg @ 16/5
We’ve got the final day of the Bundesliga coming our way on Saturday with a full fixture list kicking off at 14:30. There’s European places up for grabs, but to kick our acca off with a bang, I’m backing a mid-table draw. It’s not my usual plan of attack, but on this final day I do believe it’s the right way to go.
Monchengladbach haven’t won any of their last six matches and sit 10th, having lost four of their last five. Their season has come to a disappointing end and they have nothing to play for as they host a 12th-placed Wolfsburg who also have nothing on the line. They haven’t won any of their last nine games as both sides have flopped to mid-table finishes.
I think these two are incredibly well-matched and they are both low in confidence with nothing on the line. The players will want to get this game done and dusted before they jet off on their holidays, so I think there is massive value in the draw.
Atalanta to beat Genoa @ 4/7
With four wins in their last five games, Atalanta have secured third in Serie A and will be playing Champions League football next season. Gian Piero Gasperini has done a terrific job at the Gewiss Stadium and they will hope to finish the season with a bang as they host Genoa.
Although they have nothing to play for, I’ve been massively impressed with the way Atalanta have continued to win games towards the end of the season and so I will side with them again at home. Genoa have only won four away games all season and they haven’t won any of their last five outings. I think we should see another home win on balance.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Strasbourg to beat Le Havre @ 8/15
Strasbourg sit sixth and are in the hunt for Europa League qualification if they can win on the final day. They’ve got a relatively simple task on paper as they host Le Havre, who sit 16th and currently occupy that relegation play-off place. They could be relegated on the final day, especially when you consider that Le Racing have been astonishingly good at Stade de la Meinau this term, winning 10, drawing five and losing just once in front of their own fans.
That’s given them the third-strongest home record in the division and I just cannot see them slipping up with so much on the line. I think Le Havre are in serious trouble on Saturday.
Sporting CP to beat Vitoria @ 1/4
Let’s finish by backing Sporting CP to win the title in style on Saturday - albeit at a short price. Sporting secured a vital 1-1 draw away at Benfica last time out in what seemed to be a straight shootout for the title.
That result has kept Sporting top of the table because of their head-to-head record with Benfica, with the clubs level on 79 points. It means if they win, they will be champions and given they have won 13, drawn two and lost just once on their own patch this year, it feels like it will be quite the party at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.
With the Taca de Portugal final to come next weekend, they could end the season with two trophies. But for now, let’s back them to retain their title in front of their own fans on the final day.
