Football Bet of the Day: Goals expected in play-off game

Arsenal vs PSG in the Champions League semi-final will obviously draw most of the attention on Tuesday night, but for our Football Bet of the Day we are looking slightly further down the pyramid.
If you want some tips for Arsenal vs PSG, we have a match preview and a Bet Builder for you to consider, but below you can find my Football Bet of the Day for Tuesday, April 29.
Football Bet of the Day - Tuesday, April 29
- Boreham Wood vs Dorking Wanderers - Draw and BTTS @ 100/30
We’ve got a play-off quarter-final from the National League South coming our way on Tuesday night as Boreham Wood host Dorking Wanderers. This is for a place in the semi-finals, and unlike your usual play-offs, is simply a one-legged shootout. That means extra-time and penalties are a possibility and we could be in for a long night.
Marc White, the charismatic manager in charge of Dorking Wanderers is a bit of a non-league cult hero, having managed over 1000 games since the club was formed in 1999. His managerial reign is now documented on their own YouTube channel, which has seen Wanderers pick up quite the following online.
However, on the pitch the club that were relegated from the National League last season have marginally underperformed this term. They won’t mind the challenge of the play-offs having won them in 2021/22, although they did finish second that year and therefore have a bigger task this time around having come sixth in the regular season.
Having said that, much was made of the crazy title race on the final day in the National League South, which eventually saw Truro City crowned champions with 89 points. Both Boreham Wood and Dorking Wanderers finished on 86 points as they won their final matches of the season, but the gap proved to be too big.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- These two were the two highest scorers in the National League South
- They drew 2-2 earlier in the season
- The last three Dorking away matches have ended in score draws
The high points tally shows the level of quality at the top of the table this season, and all of them will fancy their chances ahead of the play-offs. Let’s dig into our selection then, starting with goals. Wood and Wanderers are the two highest-scoring teams in the sixth-tier this season, racking up 86 and 89 goals respectively.
You have to feel they will lean into that attacking strength for this play-off, with the league fixtures finishing 2-2, and 0-1 to Dorking Wanderers this term. I think there is good value in backing these two to score, despite the pressure that will obviously be weighing on their shoulders.
Kwesi Appiah has hit 20 goals this season for the home team while Charlie Carter is Dorking’s top scorer with 13, but they carry threats all over the park. I’ll back both teams to score, and I’ll also back the scores to be level after 90 minutes. These two are so well-matched, having finished on the same number of points, that I think it will take extra-time and penalties to separate them.
The first fixture between them ended in a 2-2 draw, while three of the last Dorking away matches have ended in score draws as well. That gives us a decent price to attack Tuesday with.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
