The race for automatic promotion from the Championship has provided plenty of thrills and spills across recent weeks but this rollercoaster could be set to come to a sedate stop at Turf Moor when Burnley entertain Sheffield United on Easter Monday (KO 17:30, Sky Sports/ITV).

Burnley have been hugely efficient in the Championship all season, amazingly conceding just 14 goals in 43 matches. Scott Parker's side are on the brink of a Premier League return, while Chris Wilder and his Sheffield United side appear destined to have to reset for the play-offs. Below are my Burnley vs Sheffield United predictions, supported by all the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Burnley picked up all three points against nine-man Watford on Friday and are now five points clear of Sheffield United with just three games left.

Parker could opt for an unchanged starting XI after the win at Vicarage Road. Hannibal Mejbri has impressed in back-to-back starts in the wins over Norwich and Watford and should leave Josh Laurent benched once again.

Sheffield United right-back Harry Clarke appears to have succumbed to injury again, while Tom Davies and Gustavo Hamer are doubts. Defensive duo Jack Robinson and Femi Seriki could come into Wilder's thinking.

Burnley vs Sheffield United Stats

  • Burnley are undefeated in their last 30 Championship matches since losing at Millwall back in November
  • Burnley have drawn nine of their 21 home matches this season
  • There have been under 2.5 goals in six of Sheffield United's last eight Championship games

Burnley vs Sheffield United Odds

Burnley are odds-on favourites at 10/11 to get the three points that would guarantee them a Premier League return for next season. Sheffield United are very much in must-win territory and the Blades are 16/5 to cut through their hosts, while the draw is priced at 12/5.

Goals are unlikely to be flowing as two of the Championship's meanest defences clash, with under 2.5 goals priced at 8/15 and both teams to score trading at 6/5.

Draw @ 12/5

Sheffield United got a much-needed win over Cardiff on Friday, ending a damaging run of three straight losses. It may, however, be too little too late as Burney and Leeds have established a five-point gap with just three games remaining and that pair now look destined for the automatic promotion places.

Burnley have not lost at home in the Championship all season, with 12 wins and nine draws at Turf Moor. Remarkably, they have conceded just six goals along the way.  Sheffield United's tally of 40 points on the road is bettered only by Burnley (46).

The Clarets have won the last four head-to-heads but a share of the spoils would see them content now and that's just what they might get against a stubborn opponent.

Hannibal Mejbri anytime goalscorer @ 11/2

Former Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri scored his first Burnley goal in their penultimate win against Norwich City.

The 22-year-old had been given a starting role there after four games coming off the bench and he duly opened the scoring when getting on the end of Josh Cullen's cross.

He kept his place for the win over Watford on Friday and teed up Josh Brownhill for the all-important winner. He could be capable of continuing his recent good form by netting a vital goal in this tight contest.
