Coventry were handed a footballing lesson by Sheffield United last Friday, but they will look to bounce back to winning ways as they welcome Burnley to the CBS Arena (12:30, Sky Sports+). Frank Lampard has led his side to 10 wins out of 13, but they need to get some more wins on the board if they are to secure a spot in the top six.

Below you can find my Coventry vs Burnley predictions featuring team news and betting tips, as the Clarets look to keep up the pressure on Leeds United and Sheffield United.

Coventry vs Burnley Betting Tips

Team News

Coventry suffered a major blow at Bramall Lane as goalkeeper Oliver Dovin was stretchered off with a knee injury. It appears to be an ACL issue, which would rule him out for the rest of the season and beyond. That means Brad Collins is likely to start in goal, with Ben Wilson the other option in between the sticks.

Liam Kitching also missed the Sheffield United defeat through illness, but should be available to come back into the heart of the defence alongside Bobby Thomas. Jay Dasilva should return at left-back in place of Jake Bidwell, with Milan van Ewijk on the right-hand side of the back four. In midfield, Ben Sheaf could come into the starting XI for Jamie Allen, while Jack Rudoni is also likely to replace Victor Torp in midfield.

Haji Wright should continue up front, flanked by Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Ephron Mason-Clark, with Ellis Simms and Jamie Paterson forced to settle for spots on the bench once again. Josh Eccles remains out with a calf issue and Brandon Thomas-Asante has missed the last three games with a pelvic problem.

Coventry vs Burnley Stats

  • Coventry have won 10 of their last 13 matches
  • Burnley haven't lost in 26 Championship games
  • The Clarets have kept 28 clean sheets this term

For Burnley, Enock Aygei is out having picked up another serious injury while Jordan Beyer remains a long-term absentee. Bashir Humphreys remains sidelined with a quad injury, but on a brighter note, Aaron Ramsey is close to returning, but is likely to prove his fitness with the under-21s before joining Scott Parker’s first-team.

Jonjo Shelvey and Mike Tresor are the other two absentees which means that Parker should stick with his settled XI. That’s James Trafford in goal and a back four of Connor Roberts, Maxime Esteve, CJ Egan-Riley and Lucas Pires. The midfield will be made up of Marcus Edwards on the right, Jaidon Anthony on the left, and a central trio of Josh Cullen, Josh Laurent and Josh Brownhill, with the latter supporting Zian Flemming up top.

Coventry vs Burnley Odds

Coventry are priced at 2/1 to win this game, which could prove to be good value given they have won their last four games at the CBS Arena. Meanwhile Burnley haven’t lost in 26 Championship matches, and are 7/5 to win here, while a draw is 11/5.

In terms of first goalscorers, Wright is the favourite at 11/2, while Burnley’s Flemming is 6/1 having scored from a free-kick against Bristol City. Over 2.5 goals has only come in during 23% of Burnley’s matches and is priced at 5/4, while BTTS is 10/11.

Under 2.5 goals @ 8/13

Let’s start with the obvious selection, and one I’m always happy to back when Burnley are playing. Parker’s style of play just lends itself to low-scoring affairs, and their defensive record speaks for itself. Just 11 goals conceded all season, and they’ve not been tearing teams apart in attack either.

Only 23%, the lowest total in the division, of their matches have ended with over 2.5 goals this term and while Coventry sit near the top of that particular stat, they are going to be stifled by this Burnley outfit. The Clarets strangle every opponent that they face, and I’m not sure if makes much difference whether they are playing at Turf Moor or not. In fact, they’ve conceded six away goals this term, and five at home to support that argument.

Despite the attacking quality on show, I think we are playing it safe by selecting under 2.5 goals as our first selection. All hail Burnley’s impenetrable defence.

Burnley to win to nil @ 11/4

I tip this almost every time Burnley play, and for good reason. They have kept 28 clean sheets this term and look set to battle it out for a top-two spot, especially with Leeds floundering. They now sit level on points with Daniel Farke’s side, and just two points adrift of league leaders Sheffield United, so the title isn’t out of the question either.

It just feels as though this defence is going to carry Burnley to the Premier League. This could also be a prelude to a potential play-off final at Wembley if things don't go their way, but I’m going to back the Clarets to come away with all three points. Coventry have been good at home, but that performance at Sheffield United worries me, and they are without their influential goalkeeper. Away win, and another clean sheet to boot.
