Wycombe’s hunt for automatic promotion to the Championship has hit a stumbling block in the last few weeks, and they’ve now lost second place to Wrexham. Mike Dodds will look to get his troops back on track as they travel to take on Steve Evans’ Rotherham United on Tuesday night (19:45, Sky Sports+).

Having only come down from the Championship last term, Rotherham United have been really disappointing and currently sit 14th, and they are near-certain to be playing in the third tier again next season. Below you can find my Rotherham vs Wycombe predictions featuring betting tips and team news.

Rotherham vs Wycombe Betting Tips

  • Wycombe to win @ 7/5
  • Bet Builder Boosts - Wycombe to win, to score the first goal and Kone to score @ ̶1̶0̶/̶3̶ 4/1

Team News

Jordan Hugill was left out of Rotherham’s squad for the 1-1 draw with Exeter last time out, and it will be well worth keeping an eye on whether he is back amongst the substitutes, or left out again.

Evans brought Liam Kelly back into the midfield, while Jonson Clarke-Harris was also named as a substitute along with Louie Sibley. The Millers no longer have anything to play for so players such as Joshua Kayode will be desperate for some minutes, while Sam Nombe looks set to continue up front with Mallik Wilks.

Wycombe were beaten by Wrexham at the weekend and need to bounce back here. Fred Onyedinma should play against the team he was on loan at last term, while Adam Reach and Jack Grimmer have both been influential from full-back and should continue here.

Up top, all eyes will be on Richard Kone. The top scorer missed the Wrexham game through illness and is touch and go for this one. If he is out, Daniel Udoh may continue to lead the line although Sam Vokes provides another option in the number nine role.

Rotherham vs Wycombe Odds

Rotherham have been priced up at 2/1 to win this game having won nine of their 18 home matches so far. Wycombe are the favourites at 7/5, which gives them an implied win probability of 42%, while a draw can be backed at 21/20.

Over 2.5 goals can be backed at 1/1 and has come in during 53% of Wycombe’s games this season while BTTS is 8/11. Kone is the favourite to open the scoring at 5/1 and he leads the scoring charts in the division with 17 goals to his name so far.

Wycombe to win @ 7/5

I will back the away side to win here, despite a slightly below-par display last time out against Wrexham. They’ve been superb this season and although the exit of Matt Bloomfield rocked them slightly and they’ve only won one of their last five, I think they can get back on track.

This is a side packed full of experience and quality, and I am taking a slight gamble by presuming that Kone will be fit to return. He changes the game up front but he also brings others into play, and I don’t think Rotherham have the legs or the quality to live with Wycombe if they are anywhere near their best.

Meanwhile, Rotherham has been massively disappointing this term. They put together an experienced squad that should be able to compete in the top six of this division, but under Evans they’ve fallen short of pre-season expectations. This week he lashed out again after they conceded a poor goal to drop points to Exeter.

“The goal is a shambles really. He (goalscorer Alex Hartridge) has got an allocated marker, but the allocated marker is nowhere near him. He (the marker) comes out and says ‘sorry’ afterwards. ‘Sorrys’ get you released from this football club. They’re not acceptable.”

The Millers have hit a dead end this season and will look to regroup for next term. Unfortunately for them I see Wycombe’s quality and desire to win shining through here.

Bet Builder Boosts - Wycombe to win, to score the first goal and Kone to score @ ̶1̶0̶/̶3̶ 4/1

Let’s add a bit of flair to our away win selection here. Kone really needs no introduction and I’m hopeful that he will be named in the starting XI again after his illness. He’s scored 17 goals in 32 League 1 appearances this season and found the net against Peterborough last time out.

Maybe the result against Wrexham would have been different if he’d have played, but he needs to make up for lost time here. I also think the first goal is vital here as Rotherham could be left frustrated if they concede first. If the Millers score first this will be a different game completely, but let’s back the away side and Kone to find the net in this boosted Bet Builder.
