Rangers vs Motherwell Prediction: There will be goals in Ferguson’s Ibrox return

Saturday brings another exciting round of fixtures from the Scottish Premiership, with eight of the dozen teams in action. Celtic travel to Paisley for a 17:30 GMT start against St Mirren. Watch that game live on Premier Sports and read our in-depth preview at Betfred Insights.
This page focuses on the play at Ibrox, where Rangers host Motherwell from 15:00. It’s a special occasion for the locals, with former club captain Barry Ferguson back in Govan as interim manager. Will he lead his team to victory? Betfred’s Frank Monkhouse previews the game and offers his Rangers vs Motherwell predictions.
Rangers vs Motherwell Betting Tips
Rangers are aiming to end a horrible run of home defeats with a win over Motherwell at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon. The Philippe Clement regime is now a thing of the past; the Belgian was sacked following an early exit from the Scottish Cup and another Premiership defeat. Gers lost 1-0 when Championship side Queen's Park came calling before slipping a shock 2-0 defeat against St Mirren last Saturday. But they impressed at Rugby Park in Ferguson’s return, fighting back from 2-0 down to win 4-2.
Motherwell know the size of the task that awaits them in Govan. But the Steelmen also know there’s never been a better time to play Rangers, with the locals still reeling from Clement’s sacking. Motherwell are stuck on a dire run, but new manager Michael Wimmer has a golden opportunity to stop the rot and get the fans onside. Will Motherwell win on Saturday and pile pressure on the Gers squad?
Rangers may be out of form and without a permanent manager, but Betfred traders are happy to keep the faith and expect a big performance from the home dressing room. Many of those wearing light blue are fighting for their futures, knowing their time at Ibrox will be up unless they can impress. Fancy Rangers to get back to winning ways at Ibrox? You can back the home win at 1/7 on the Betfred website and app.
Motherwell have suffered some painful defeats since former boss Stuart Kettlewell finally bowed to crowd pressure and headed for the exit door. The Steelmen lost 1-0 at Tannadice, Ross County left Fir Park with a 3-0 win, and Celtic also scored three in North Lanarkshire. It’s difficult to make a strong case for the away win here, but you can back Motherwell at odds of 16/1 (5.9%) at Betfred. The draw will net backers 7/1.
Both teams to score @ 1/1
Rangers are still finding their feet under stand-in boss Barry Ferguson and his coaching staff filled with club legends. The gaffer told fans they can expect more direct, attacking, and exciting football while he’s in charge, and that’ll be music to the ears of those who watched Clement’s Gers struggle to break down opponents. The home team’s arsenal has plenty of firepower, but they’re also fragile at the back.
The Gers conceded two against St Mirren, one at Tynecastle and another when Queens Park ripped up the script. They then leaked two early goals against Kilmarnock. Motherwell also found the net against Dundee on Tuesday and at home to Celtic last month. Add both teams to score in the game at Ibrox to your weekend accumulators, and hope this game lives up to expectations.

Both teams to score and Rangers win @ 7/5
Following on from our last bet, I expect Motherwell to find the net but do think the experience and presence of Ferguson will help inspire Rangers to a morale-boosting win. There’s nothing left to play for this season other than pride, but that matters to the temporary Rangers boss and his staff. Ferguson was a winner as a player, and he’ll want to prove he’s a winner as a manager.
The stats show both teams have scored in each of the last four games involving these clubs. Rangers have won two of the previous three, with the spare being an entertaining four-goal draw at Fir Park late last year. Stick with the stats and back Rangers to edge Motherwell on a competitive afternoon at Ibrox.
