Football Bet of the Day: Tigers can win fourth away game
Tuesday night offers up a selection of Premier League fixtures, but once again we are turning our attention to the Championship as we look to pick out a winner for our Football Bet of the Day. There’s a massive game taking place at the bottom of the table, as Cardiff City host Hull City (19:45, Sky Sports+) with both clubs striving to pull away from the bottom three.

Football Bet of the Day - Tuesday, February 25
- Hull City to beat Cardiff City @ 15/8
It’s 20th vs 21st on Tuesday night in Wales as both the Bluebirds and the Tigers attempt to bolster the three-point gap that currently exists between themselves and the relegation zone. It feels as though the bottom three could be cut adrift soon, with that gap only set to lengthen if they do not turn things around.
Luton Town are now five points adrift having lost again this weekend, and there isn’t really a good result here for them. Even a draw would put them six points behind and there are now just 12 games to go, so time is running out. But enough about Luton, let’s talk about this fascinating fixture on Tuesday night.
Cardiff haven’t won in their last four, and that includes a 7-0 hammering at the hands of Leeds United. However, in their last two they have managed to grind out 1-1 draws with Bristol City and relegation rivals Plymouth, to keep their heads above water. Omer Riza saw Dimitrios Goutas get sent off in that draw, and he will be the big miss for this home fixture having done well at the heart of the defence in recent weeks.
Only Hull have picked up fewer points (13) on home soil this season than Cardiff (21) in the Championship and they’ve had real trouble picking up points on a regular basis so far in front of their own fans. Of course, you will have noticed that Hull’s home form is pathetic, but that does mean they have done reasonably well on the road.
They sit eighth in the away table, having won six of their 16 fixtures to date, and clearly they are set-up better to gain points away from the MKM this season. But that’s not the only reason why I am backing them to come away with all three points in this crunch clash. Ruben Selles is an excellent manager and he is proving that at Hull as they pull away from danger.
I just can’t see the Tigers getting relegated at this stage especially when you take into account their recent away wins. On Saturday, they became the first team to beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light this season with a wonderful away display that culminated in a 1-0 success. Prior to that, they hammered promotion-chasing Sheffield United 3-0 at Bramall Lane in another second-tier shock.
In fact, Hull have now won their last three away games without conceding a goal as they beat Millwall 1-0 at the Den prior to those two shock victories. That has carried them away from danger and I believe they will go to Cardiff, who do not have the same individual quality as Sunderland and Sheffield United, and get another three points.
Tactically they are well-drilled on the road with Matt Crooks a key component of these wins. Joe Gelhardt is also providing another option as part of the front three and while Louie Barry’s injury is a concern, they should be able to get the points without him. I’m happy to side with the Tigers to get the better of Cardiff here at a great price of 15/8.
