Southampton vs Burnley Prediction: Saints could be in for difficult afternoon

Southampton may welcome some respite from their Premier League relegation battle, but they are not guaranteed to get the better of Burnley in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday (15:00), as the Clarets are riding high in the Championship and have conceded just nine goals in 31 league games.

Southampton are 8/11 to win the game within 90 minutes, while Burnley are 9/2 to come out on top in regulation time and it is 5/2 that the match goes to extra-time. 

Over 2.5 goals is a 11/10 chance while evens is available for both teams to score and Southampton forward Paul Onuachu is 9/2 favourite to grab the game's first goal.

Southampton are set to be without Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Jack Stephens, Ross Stewart, Juan Larios and Ryan Fraser but Nathan Wood and Tyler Dibling could be involved. 

Marcus Edwards could make his debut for the Clarets and Luca Koleosho and Josh Brownhill face late fitness tests. Mike Tresor, Aaron Ramsey, Jordan Beyer, Enock Agyei and Nathan Redmond are set to miss out.

Southampton beat Ipswich in the Premier League last week, but they could come unstuck against Burnley, who have proved to be tough to break down in the Championship this season. 

Scott Parker's Clarets have kept nine clean sheets in their last 10 second-tier matches while bottom-of-the-table Southampton are unsurprisingly the lowest scorers in the top flight with just 18 goals this season. 

The south coast outfit have beaten Swansea and Stoke in the cup competitions, but this represents a much tougher test against a team they could easily be swapping places with for next season. 

Five of Burnley's last 10 games have finished level, which means the double chance of a Clarets win or a draw after 90 minutes may be the best way forward.

Five of Burnley's last 10 matches have been goalless and it could be hard for the Saints, who have scored just 18 league goals all season, to break through, which should mean this one is low scoring.
