Liverpool anfield scaled

Tottenham Hotspur head to Anfield on Thursday (20:00, ITV1) with a one-goal advantage over Liverpool in their Carabao Cup semi-final tie. Spurs secured a much-needed win in the Premier League on Sunday, beating Brentford 2-0 away from home, to give them a boost ahead of their biggest match of the season.

Liverpool won 2-0 at AFC Bournemouth to maintain their gap at the summit last time out, and they will fancy themselves to overcome the one-goal deficit on Merseyside. Below you will find my Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur bet builder tips, which pay out at an enticing 12/1.

Liverpool to win (in 90 mins)

Many were surprised to see Spurs come out on top in the first leg, let alone with a clean sheet given the makeshift defence boss Ange Postecoglou has had to deploy in recent months.

This likely unsettled Liverpool but they will not be fazed by being a goal down against a team that have shipped 37 goals in the Premier League, the most of the division's 'big six'. The hosts have also won five of the seven fixtures played since losing in north London.

Arne Slot and his players will fancy themselves to overcome this deficit at Anfield, which will be flooded with home supporters. The Reds have lost just once in L4 this season, and that was against Nottingham Forest, who are defying expectations to compete for a place in the top four this campaign.

Since that defeat on September 14, Liverpool have won nine of their 11 appearances here in all competitions. Slot's side are the top scorers in the top flight with 56 goals, of which Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz have netted 66 per cent.

They have the firepower to make amends for blanking in the first leg, but whether it is enough to win the tie is another question.

Both teams to score

Spurs have won two games on the spin in all competitions heading into Thursday's clash on Merseyside, and they have managed clean sheets in both of them. However, I think there will be goals on offer at Anfield, largely due to the quality of Liverpool's attacking stars.

BTTS has been a successful bet in five of Spurs' past six appearances in the Premier League, while it has also struck in four of Liverpool's last five outings at Anfield across all competitions.

It's Tottenham's biggest game of the season so Postecoglou and his players need to throw everything at it. They've disrupted Liverpool once, they can do it again.

Football Odds

Cody Gakpo anytime goalscorer

Gakpo really looks to have found his rhythm in a Liverpool shirt this season and I would say he has been one of their key players. The Dutchman has eight goals in the Premier League but he has been having a lot of joy in the Carabao Cup, netting four goals. He is the joint-top scorer in the competition alongside Tom Ince (Watford) and Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal).

The attacker bagged braces against West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion in the third and fourth rounds respectively, and I believe he can play a starring role in this second leg clash with Spurs.

Surprisingly, Gakpo was not one of the scorers in December's 6-3 victory over Spurs in the top flight, so it does feel like he is overdue a goal against them.

The Netherlands international tends to be at his best at Anfield, with nine of his 15 goals (60 per cent) in all competitions coming in L4. I'm backing him to experience some more home delight on Thursday.

Richarlison to receive a card

This bet builder is rounded off with a booking and the player I turn to is Spurs forward Richarlison. The Brazilain has proven to be a hot-head over the years and he can often let his emotions get the better of him.

On the cusp of a first-ever cup final appearance in English football, he will be desperate to help Tottenham over the line at Anfield. I've already made my points about Liverpool's attackers and the home advantage likely playing its part on Thursday, and that has played into my thinking regarding this particular selection.

If the Reds overcome the one-goal deficit swiftly and take advantage, I can see Richarlison losing his cool and making some reckless challenges to vent his frustrations, which will likely see him go into the referee's book.
