Montpellier vs Monaco Prediction: Principality club can ease to victory

Ligue 1 basement side Montpellier continue their survival fight on Friday night when they welcome high-flying Monaco to the Stade de la Mosson.
Neither side is in good form, with Montpellier having lost 3-1 at home to Angers on Sunday, while Monaco were beaten on penalties by Reims in the French Cup last time out. Read on for my Montpellier vs Monaco prediction, as well as the latest team news and match odds.
Team News
Kiki Kouyate and Jordan Ferri are both suspended for the hosts after they were sent off in the defeat to Angers last time out.
Montpellier will also be without injured trio Christopher Jullien, Birama Toure and Nikola Maksimovic.
As for Monaco, new signing Mika Biereth could start up top, but they will be without George Ilenikhena, Folarin Balogun and Christna Mawissa Elebi.
Monaco are unsurprisingly favourites to win this match at 8/15, while a Montpellier victory is 9/2. The draw is 16/5.
Punters should also expect plenty of excitement with over 2.5 goals priced at 1/2.
Monaco -1 goal on handicap @ 7/5
Monaco have faltered since the last international break and they are winless in their first three games of 2025, losing to PSG in the Trophee des Champions before draws with Nantes and Reims.
But their early-season form means the principality club are still within touching distance of second-placed Marseille and they are on course for Champions League qualification.
Next up is a visit to the worst team in the division, Montpellier, and it could be one-way traffic.
All nine of Montpellier's league points have been collected on their own patch this season, but even recent home performances have been underwhelming and they were outclassed by lowly Angers 3-1 last time out.
They had two players sent off in that contest - Kiki Kouyate and Jordan Ferri - so they will be even weaker for the visit of Monaco, who can win this game by at least two goals.
Montpellier have leaked an eye-watering 42 goals in just 17 Ligue 1 fixtures this season - an average of 2.47 goals per game - and Monaco, boosted by the signing of Sturm Graz striker Mika Biereth, should rack up the goals.

Eliesse Ben Seghir to score @ 7/5
All eyes will be on new signing Biereth for Monaco in this contest but another player who could capitalise on the permeable nature of Montpellier is attacking midfielder Eliesse Ben Seghir.
Ben Seghir is enjoying a terrific season for Monaco, scoring five times and laying on three assists in Ligue 1 this term, so there should be ample opportunity for him to find the net at the Stade de la Mosson.
