Wycombe Wanderers vs Portsmouth Prediction: Expect goals under the Friday night lights

Wycombe have eyes on promotion back to the Championship from League 1 this season, while Portsmouth are aiming to maintain their second-tier status.  

The two teams go head-to-head at Adams Park on Friday night (19:45) in what should be an entertaining FA Cup third-round tie.

Jasper Pattenden is out with a hamstring injury for the home side and Caleb Taylor has been recalled by parent club West Brom. Alex Hartridge is back from suspension after seeing red against Blackpool and new Wycombe signing Sonny Bradley could make his debut at centre-back.  

Ryan Tafazolli, Kieran Sadlier and Sam Vokes are nearing a return, while Beryly Lubala is back from illness.  

Portsmouth Striker Kusini Yengi isn't expected back until February after he sustained a knee injury while on international duty in November. Ibane Bowat is out for the season and is joined on the sidelines by Conor Shaughnessy, Regan Poole, Harvey Blair and Ahmed Abdullahi. 

Mark O'Mahony has returned to his parent club Brighton for treatment.

Wycombe are 13/10 favourite for Friday night's FA Cup third-round tie, with Portsmouth rated 15/8 chances and the draw available at 12/5.

Championship side Portsmouth are 15/8 to win at League One Wycombe on Friday night and that looks a little too big.  

The Chairboys are in action just three days after Tuesday night's League One tie with Huddersfield and it looks a big ask for Matt Bloomfield's men. Of course quick turnarounds are no stranger to EFL clubs, but Wycombe go into the FA Cup contest without Ryan Tafazolli, Kieran Sadlier and Sam Vokes, while Caleb Taylor has been recalled by his parent club.  

The absence of Tafazolli and Taylor leaves Bloomfield a little short at centre-back and that could open the door for Portsmouth.  

Pompey played with credit in Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Sunderland and prior to that the south coast side hammered Swansea 4-0. There is enough in the price to chance John Mousinho's men at Adams Park.

There have been 20 goals in Portsmouth's last six matches with three of those games busting the 3.5-goal mark.  

Wycombe have defensive issues and are struggling to keep clean sheets, but they are firing at the other end.  

The Chairboys are the highest-scoring team in the third tier this term and their attacking potential remains against Championship opposition.
