Bayern munich vs rb leipzig predictions betting tips bundesliga friday december 20 2024

Bundesliga big-hitters Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig play for the final time in 2024 on Friday (19:30, Sky Sports+) as they face off at the Allianz Arena. Six points separate the league leaders and Marco Rose's visitors but Die Roten Bullen have won their last two in the German top flight, while Vincent Kompnay's side are hurting from last weekend's 2-1 defeat at Mainz.

Read on for my Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig prediction, complete with all the latest team news and match odds, ahead of the Bundesliga's standout fixture of round 15.

Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig Betting Tips

  • First Goalscorer - Benjamin Sesko (RBL) @ 10/1
  • Both Teams to Score Two Goals or More Yes/No - Yes @ 100/30

Team News

Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies have both been suffering from hamstring injuries lately, missing Bayern's last four and two matches, respectively, but the duo were able to complete parts of training on Monday and could play a part in proceedings on Friday.

There's also positive news over wingers Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, the former having missed the last two games and the latter the last three. Both completed a running session on Monday and are nearing a return to action.

However, Manuel Neuer and Hiroki Ito are both ruled out while Joao Palhinha is a major doubt after missing Bayern's last seven games.

Football Odds

RB Leipzig are expected to be without Xavi Simons, David Raum, Yussuf Poulsen, Amadou Haidara, Eljif Elmas and Assan Ouedraogo for the trip to Munich, while it remains to be seen whether Castello Lukeba recovers in time having not featured this month due to injury.

Bayern are 3/10 to beat Leipzig for the second time this calendar year after edging Rose's side out 2-1 at the Allianz Arena on February 24. Those odds give the Bavarians an implied win probability of 76.9%, while Friday's visitors are 15/2, or an 11.8% chance, to make it three victories from their last four visits to the stadium.

The draw is priced at 5/1, both teams to score at 4/7, and over 3.5 total goals at 5/6.

First Goalscorer - Benjamin Sesko (RBL) @ 10/1

Bayern opened the scoring in all but one of their first 11 Bundesliga games this season but have gone behind in two of their last three, conceding first in a 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund on November 30 and in last Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Mainz.

Kompany's side also had to fight back from a goal deficit in their 5-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Uefa Champions League on December 10, while Bayer Leverkusen's Nathan Tella scored the only goal of their DFB-Pokal tie a week earlier, meaning Bayern have conceded first in four of their last five matches in all competitions.

That will be music to the ears of Leipzig and Slovenia striker Benjamin Sesko, who has opened the scoring in three of his club side's last four games. The 21-year-old has struck 10 times for Die Roten Bullen across all competitions in 2024/25 and, remarkably, seven of those efforts have been the game's first goal; in fact, he's opened the scoring in every club match he has netted in this season.

Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Dortmund are among his high-profile victims while he has also struck first for his country in Uefa Nations League contests against Austria and Kazakhstan.

Sesko was beaten to the punch by Kane in the last meeting between Bayern and Leipzig at the Allianz Arena in February, but the former Red Bull Salzburg forward did net an equaliser for his side 14 minutes after the England captain had put the hosts one up.

Considering all of the above, I think we're getting great odds for Sesko to strike first on Friday.

Both Teams to Score Two Goals or More Yes/No - Yes @ 100/30

This bet has landed in four Bayern games this season, twice in the Bundesliga including their last home outing in the competition, a 4-2 victory over Heidenheim on December 7.

Both teams to score two or more goals has been a winning selection in five Leipzig matches in all competitions and, like Bayern, it's occurred twice in the league, most recently in a 4-3 defeat to Hoffenheim in Sinsheim on November 23.

Bayern boast the division's best defence with just 12 goals conceded in 14 Bundesliga outings and Leipzig are joint second, alongside Union Berlin, on 15 goals conceded.

However, Bayern have conceded multiple goals on four occasions, with the nine strikes against them in those four games accounting for 75 per cent of their total, showing that when they are breached, another goal usually follows.

It's a similar story for Leipzig who have also conceded at least twice four times in the German top flight this season, and the 13 goals they have shipped in those four games make up 86.7 per cent of their total.

Both teams scored twice in a 2-2 draw at the Red Bull Arena in September 2023 and there was nearly a repeat of that scoreline in the reverse fixture at the Allianz Arena earlier this year as Bayern won 2-1 in Munich.

Vulnerabilities are evident in both teams' defence and with the likes of Kane, Sesko, Jamal Musiala and Lois Openda sniffing about, I can see both Bayern and Leipzig grabbing a couple of goals on Friday.
