Northampton Town vs Peterborough United Prediction: Managerless Cobblers face tough test

Just 42 miles separates Northampton and Peterborough and so we have a Monday night clash that should bring the fireworks when they meet in League 1 (20:00, Sky Sports+). Northampton are currently managerless after Jon Brady left the club following Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Stevenage, but the Cobblers will hope to get one over on Peterborough in the Nene Derby as the pair meet at Sixfields.
Below you will find my Northampton Town vs Peterborough United predictions featuring team news and betting tips.
Team News
Northampton’s poor run of form, which culminated in Brady’s departure, could be blamed for the recent lack of points. Ali Koiki, Luke Mbete, Patrick Brough, Tyler Magloire, Jack Baldwin and Callum Morton all remain out, while there was more bad news in midweek.
Former Coventry City goalkeeper Lee Burge missed that defeat with a knee injury, and that looks like it will keep him out of this game as well, so Nik Tzanev is the man who will don the gloves for the Cobblers.
Tom Eaves was sent off on Tuesday and will miss this game through suspension, while Nesta Guinness-Walker and Ben Fox both had to come off with knocks and will have to be assessed. It looks like the home side are down to the bare bones.
Meanwhile, Darren Ferguson’s Posh side suffered a major blow on Wednesday night as star man Kwame Poku picked up a serious hamstring injury that is set to rule him out for up to three months. He joins Jed Steer, Mahamdou Susoho and Bradley Ihionvien on the sidelines, but Emmanuel Fernandez is now back from suspension, having served a ban for accumulating five yellow cards in 2024/25.
Northampton Town vs Peterborough United Odds
Northampton haven’t won in their last six games, so it is no surprise that they are the outsiders here, priced at 12/5 to take the three points. Peterborough are available at 1/1, giving them an implied win probability of 50%, while a draw can be backed at 11/4.
Over 2.5 goals has come in during 12 of Peterborough’s 17 league games so far and that can be backed at 8/15, while BTTS is 1/2. Ricky Jade-Jones is the favourite to open the scoring at 5/1.
Peterborough to win @ 1/1
I was a big fan of Brady and the work he had done at Northampton, so it is disappointing to see him leave his post in charge of the Cobblers. After 200 matches, his three-and-half-year tenure came to an end and he leaves them in the relegation zone with 18 points from 18 matches.
Ian Sampson will lead the side into this Nene Derby, and they have done far better at home of late, picking up seven points from their last three outings at Sixfields. However, I’m going to back the away side to come out on top for a couple of reasons. First of all, fans are split over whether Brady’s exit is the right move for the club, even though results and performances have been poor of late.
Northampton have a shocking record against Peterborough, winning just one of their last 10 league games against Posh, and I think Ferguson’s side just boast more quality in their squad. They are struggling this term having finished in the play-offs for two consecutive seasons, and are currently in 15th place. The injury to Poku won’t help things, but given they won 5-1 when the sides last met in March, I think they will be able to get back to winning ways when the stakes are high.

BTTS Yes @ 1/2
Okay it’s not a sexy pick, but I do think this will come in at a short price. No team in League 1 has seen BTTS come in more frequently than Posh this term, and it is part of the reason why they are struggling to kick on. 12 of their 17 games so far - or 71% - have ended with both teams on the scoresheet which is a pretty compelling figure when we assess the statistics.
Meanwhile, Northampton may have had issues in terms of picking up points, but both teams have scored in 10 of their 18 fixtures, which gives them a success percentage of 56, and ranks them well above the divisional average of 46 per cent. With a point to prove, the hosts could come out with attacking intent, while Peterborough’s games are always entertaining. Goals are the order of the day on Monday night.
