Form Guide
Arne Slot has won nine of his first 11 Premier League games in charge of Liverpool since replacing Jurgen Klopp during the summer. The Dutchman dropped his first league points in a 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest on September 14 and saw his side held to a 2-2 draw by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on October 27, but since that stalemate in north London, the Reds have won back-to-back Anfield games against Brighton & Hove Albion (2-1) and Aston Villa (2-0). Throw in a 3-2 victory at Brighton in the Carabao Cup and a 4-0 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen in the Uefa Champions League and Liverpool are on a four-game win streak in all competitions.
It's no surprise, then, that the reigning Carabao Cup champions top the Premier League form table over the last five matches, picking up 13 points from the 15 available.
Southampton sit at the other end of the standings, over the last five games and the season as a whole. They won their first league game against Everton on November 2, triumphing 1-0 at St Mary's, but they had lost their last four prior to that and failed to build on that victory last time out at Molineux, where they were downed 2-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Russell Martin's side remain the only team not to have picked up a point on their travels, losing all six away games, so they'll be happy to be playing at home on Sunday, where they have beaten Everton and drawn with Ipswich Town (1-1).
However, Liverpool have only dropped points on the road against last season's runners-up Arsenal and have only conceded three times away from L4 - two of which came in that draw with Arsenal.
Unsurprisingly, Liverpool are favourites for Sunday's contest at 2/7, giving the visitors an implied win probability of 77.8%, while the draw is 5/1 and if you fancy Southampton to cause an upset, that price is available at 10/1.
Head-to-head record
This is a fixture Liverpool have dominated in recent years, winning four of the last five head-to-heads. The first two of those came at Anfield - a 2-0 success in May 2021 and a 4-0 thrashing in November of the same year. The Reds won the reverse game 2-1 at St Mary's in May 2022 and also beat the Saints 3-1 at Anfield later in the year.
Their most recent league meeting came on the south coast in May 2023 when, with the Saints already relegated and the Reds already out of contention for Champions League football, the sides played out a 4-4 draw.
They have met more recently, at Anfield in February, but that was in the FA Cup, with Liverpool eventually easing to a 3-0 victory.

Player Goals/Shots/Shots on Target
Mohamed Salah is the obvious candidate in the first and anytime goalscorer market on Sunday having scored eight Premier League goals in his first 11 appearances - only Manchester City's Erling Haaland (12) has netted more.
Luis Diaz has also been in good goalscoring form for the Reds, notching five in the Premier League, although he hasn't found the net in his last six competition outings.
Cameron Archer is Southampton's top scorer in the Premier League with just two goals and appears the most likely in the first or anytime goalscorer market for the hosts.

Disciplinary
Southampton trio Flynn Downes, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Tyler Dibling have all been booked four times in this season's Premier League and a further caution for any of them would incur a one-game suspension and rule them out of their side's trip to Brighton on Friday night.
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is also walking a disciplinary tightrope, and if he is cautioned on Sunday, the Argentine will miss next weekend's crunch clash with Man City at Anfield.
Saints midfielder Matheus Fernandes and Reds star Ryan Gravenberch are also players of interest in the card market as they have each committed 15 league fouls this term, earning three and two yellows, respectively.
