Venezia vs Udinese Prediction: Lucca to inspire visitors to victory

Udinese will be aiming to extend their impressive start to the Serie A season when they travel to the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo to take on struggling Venezia on Wednesday (17:30). 

Kosta Runjaic's side came into the midweek round of fixtures sitting seventh in the standings, level on points with Fiorentina in fourth. Venezia, meanwhile, have won just once in nine league games and look set for a season of struggle after earning promotion via the Serie B play-offs last term.

Venezia could be boosted by the return of left-back Marin Sverko for Wednesday's game following a recent muscle problem, which would leave Icelandic winger Bjarki Steinn Bjarkason (groin) as their only confirmed injury absentee. 

Udinese remain without former Arsenal and Manchester United ace Alexis Sanchez due to a calf injury, but Florian Thauvin does have a chance of returning following his recent hip issue.

Udine have been one of the surprise packages in Serie A this season, accumulating 16 points from their opening nine games, and they should prove too strong for a Venezia side still finding their feet back at this level. 

The Bianconeri have lost their last two away games, but those defeats were to Roma and AC Milan, while their last trip to a newly-promoted side ended in success, as they won 3-2 at Parma back in August. 

Venezia's only win of the campaign was on home turf against fellow strugglers Genoa and they have taken just a solitary point from their four games since then. 

After doing the double over Venezia when these two teams last crossed paths during the 2021/22 season, Udinese will be confident of leaving Venice with all three points once again.
