This feels like a simply gargantuan game at the bottom of the Championship. Live on Sky Sports Football (20:00), QPR host Coventry City with the pair having had miserable starts to the new season. Rangers sit bottom of the league with just one win to their name under Marti Cifuentes, while Coventry aren’t faring much better, and sit just one point above their hosts as things stand.

Defeat for either of these teams would be catastrophic, and it feels like a draw wouldn’t do much to ease the pain of either fanbase right now. Below you can find my QPR vs Coventry prediction, with betting tips and match odds included.

QPR vs Coventry Betting Tips

  • Coventry to win @ 7/5
  • Bet Builder - Coventry to win, Wright to score, Field and Eccles to get booked @ 33/1

Team News

QPR are attempting to dominate possession this term, without much success, but some changes may help Cifuentes out. Jake Clarke-Salter is likely to come into the back line on the left-hand side of that back three, alongside the experienced Steve Cook and Jimmy Dunne.

The manager may choose to play Zan Celar up front or could switch to a front two of him and Michael Frey to shake things up. Karamoko Dembele or Ilias Chair could drop out if that is the case, with Kenneth Paal set to continue at left wing-back.

Coventry tried a back three for the first time this season at Preston last time out, and although they lost 1-0, Mark Robins could choose to stick with the same system. Joel Latibeaudiere did well at the heart of the defence, but the manager will want more from his wing-backs in the form of Jay Dasilva and Milan van Ewijk, with Jake Bidwell still out injured.

The issue with the system is that it means there is no place for Tatsuhiro Sakamoto or Ephron Mason-Clark, two natural wingers, but it does mean the Sky Blues can get two strikers on the pitch. Ellis Simms and Norman Bassette started at Deepdale, but Haji Wright should come into the side for one of the two, after starting on the bench at the weekend following international duty.

QPR vs Coventry Odds

QPR are priced at 2/1 to win this game, with Coventry available at 7/5. A draw can be backed at 23/10, over 2.5 goals is 10/11 and BTTS is 4/6. Ellis Simms and Haji Wright are the favourites to open the scoring at 11/2.

Coventry to win @ 7/5

As a Coventry fan, I just have to believe a win is around the corner. It’s been pretty miserable watching this season in terms of results, but performances haven’t been horrendous, there is just an obvious lack of confidence throughout the playing squad. There is clearly quality in this side, with Wright, Ben Sheaf and Jack Rudoni all talented players, but they need to become more resolute in testing circumstances.

The first goal is going to be crucial in this one, but I have to back Coventry to come out on top against QPR. The R's have only won once this season, are yet to win at home, and have amassed just two points in front of their own fans. With both sides low on confidence, I’m backing the Sky Blues to nick it - just.

I’ve also put together a bet builder for this one as I think there is big value to be had. I think Coventry will win, as I’ve just explained, while I also believe Wright will score. The American actually found the net against Preston at the weekend but it was harshly ruled out for a questionable handball, and he clearly provides Coventry’s biggest goal threat.

I think he will cause problems for QPR’s back three, and he simply has to start producing in front of goal for Coventry, so I’m happy to back him to score anytime. To extend our odds, I’ve picked the two tough-tackling midfielders to pick up yellow cards in what I believe will be a pretty feisty game at the bottom of the table. This is a ‘win at all costs’ game for both teams, so backing Sam Field, who has picked up four yellows in all competitions this season, and Eccles who has three to his name, to both get booked is a sensible shout in my eyes.

That bet builder is priced at 33/1
