Football Bet of the Day: Black Cats can better Tigers
We’ve got some banging matches to look forward to on Sunday as club football returns this weekend. For our Football Bet of the Day for Sunday October 20, we’ve taken a look at a key game in the Championship as Hull City host Sunderland, live on Sky Sports Football at 15:00.
Football Bet of the Day - Sunday, October 20
- Hull vs Sunderland - Sunderland win and over 3.5 goals @ 11/2
This should be an absolutely belting game on Humberside on Sunday. I think that Sunderland are the far superior team heading into this one and believe they will come out with three points, but they are only 6/4 to win this one - which is worth backing in an accumulator - but I think we can find extra value.
Hull kept their players ticking over with a 2-0 win over Alanyaspor during the international break, and their form has been intriguing in the Championship. They got dismantled by Norwich in a 4-0 defeat, but there’s now a growing belief that the Canaries could even be automatic promotion challengers this term under Johannes Hoff Thorup.
Before that one, they had actually won three on the bounce against weaker opposition, with successes against QPR, Cardiff and Stoke taking them well away from the drop zone. It is those games that have caught my attention in terms of goals, as I think there is a lot of talent in this Hull side going forward.
Tim Walter likes to play attacking football, with Kasey Palmer, Liam Millar, Chris Bedia, Bachir Belloumi and Mason Burstow all decent options in the final third. This competition for places should keep the players on the top of their game, and they will want to give Sunderland a real test having been humiliated by Norwich last time out in the Championship.
Both teams found the net in every one of that trio of victories Hull had though, which underlines their front-loaded team and lack of quality at the back. Cody Drameh and Ryan Giles are both talented full-backs, but like to get forward, while they are clearly still missing Jacob Greaves after his summer move to Ipswich Town.
It means goals are on the agenda, and our potion only burns brighter when we throw Sunderland into the mix. They’ve been so good to watch this season under Regis Le Bris, with that 2-2 draw against Leeds last time out as barmy as it was entertaining. They have Illan Meslier to thank for rescuing them a point, but they did pose a decent goal threat, as they have done all season.
Romaine Mundle, Chris Rigg, Jobe Bellingham, Patrick Roberts and Wilson Isidor are all capable of scoring plenty of goals, and it is the rotations between them that seem to cause teams problems. They have scored 18 goals and conceded eight in their nine league matches so far, with Mundle being a particular standout after the departure of Jack Clarke.
There’s so much to like about this Sunderland team, but both of these outfits are capable of hitting the other on the break, which should lead to an enthralling match-up at the MKM Stadium. In my opinion, Sunderland are going to win this one, but there are going to be plenty of goals along the way.
