After losing 3-0 away to Sparta Prague in their Champions League opener, RB Salzburg will look to respond when they take on Brest at home on Tuesday (17:45, TNT Sports 3).

The hosts are going well in the Austrian Bundesliga as they have won four of their six opening matches. Despite beating Sturm Graz in the Champions League, Brest are not having much joy in Ligue 1, with just two wins from six. Read on for my RB Salzburg vs Brest prediction, accompanied by match odds and team news.

RB Salzburg vs Brest Betting Tips

  • RB Salzburg -1 handicap @ 2/1
  • Oscar Gloukh anytime goalscorer @ 15/8

RB Salzburg vs Brest Odds

RB Salzburg are 8/11 to win this clash, giving them an implied probability of 57.9%. Brest are valued at 18/5 to take the three points, which gives them a theoretical chance of 21.7%. The draw can be backed at 11/4 (26.7%).

Both teams to score is available at 4/6 and over 2.5 goals is marketed at 8/11. RB Salzburg attacker Oscar Gloukh has five goals in as many appearances in the league this season. He is priced at 6/1 to open the scoring on Tuesday evening.

Brest's own midfielder, Mahdi Camara, has found the back of the net twice in Ligue 1 this campaign. He is 9/2 to score anytime during this contest.

Team News

RB Salzburg will once again be without the presence of influential midfielder Maurits Kjaergaard due to injury, and it is said that he could be out of action until November at the earliest.

Daouda Guindo and Takumu Kawamura remain in the treatment room as long-term absentees, while Aleksa Terzic is also set to miss out. Samson Baidoo is also a doubt to feature on Tuesday.

After a fine scoring start to the season, Oscar Gloukh will be feeling ready to start this match. He, alongside Barcelona's Lamine Yamal and Paris Saint-Germain's Warren Zaire-Emery, are the only players under the age of 21 to have both created 10 chances and completed 10 dribbles in the Champions League since the beginning of 2023/24.

Boss Pep Lijnders started Liverpool loanee Stefan Bajcetic, whom he will know well from his own time at Anfield, in the Champions League opener a fortnight ago, so he could be set to keep his place in the side for this clash.

For Brest, they are missing defenders Achraf Dari and Bradley Locko due to injury. Midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou has just returned to training but this game looks to be too soon for him to get thrown back into action.

Julien Le Cardinal missed his team's defeat to Auxerre through illness, so it remains to be seen if he has recovered in time to come back into the heart of defence in Salzburg, so we could see Brendan Chardonnet and Soumaila Coulibaly partner up at the back.

RB Salzburg -1 handicap @ 2/1

The hosts were stunned in their last Champions League match despite dominating the ball. Lijnders will want to make sure that they make it count this time around, especially with them being on home soil.

RB Salzburg will look for an instant response and they will be sensing an opportunity to get their first win on the board against Brest, who have not been having a great time of it in Ligue 1 so far in 2024/25. The French side did taste victory in Europe two weeks ago against another Austrian side, but they will find this trip to Salzburg tougher in my opinion.

Brest have been far too inconsistent for my liking, which means you never know what to expect each time they turn up for a game. The onus will be on RB Salzburg to set the tempo of this match as the home side and that is exactly what I expect they will do.

The visitors were comfortably beaten 3-0 on Friday against Auxerre, who had lost four games in a row before that meeting. The hosts have won three of their last five in the Austrian Bundesliga, and they are currently two games unbeaten. They will be feeling the more confident of the two sides heading into Tuesday's meeting.

Lijnders has a talented bunch of young players at his disposal and I think they will be able to flaunt their talent against this inconsistent Brest side at home. I am confident that they can secure their first win in Europe this term, and so I think for true value, they are worth backing with a -1 handicap.

Oscar Gloukh anytime goalscorer @ 15/8

One player who stands above the rest in terms of goals heading into this match is RB Salzburg's Gloukh. The 20-year-old has been brilliant in the league in the first few weeks of the season and he will be eager to translate that goalscoring form onto the Champions League stage.

With five goals already, he will be feeling confident ahead of this clash with Brest, who conceded three goals in their last appearance. I have a feeling that RB Salzburg will dominate the ball once again, but I expect on this occasion they will be more precise with it and they should be more clinical with their chances.

As the team's leading marksman at the minute, I think Gloukh will have a few opportunities to score come his way, and with the way he is playing right now, I am confident that he will get on the scoresheet on Tuesday.
