Wrexham vs Shrewsbury Prediction: Red Dragons to move to the summit

Wrexham host Shrewsbury Town in League 1 on Saturday (15:00, Sky Sports+) as the Red Dragons bid to move to the top of the table. The Welsh side are second on 10 points and are behind leaders Stockport County on goal difference. With the Hatters and Birmingham, who are in third, not having games this weekend due to international call-ups, Wrexham have a chance to give themselves a cushion.
They welcome a Shrewsbury side that won their first game of the season last week against Leyton Orient, having lost their three matches prior. They now face a tough away trip to a side that are yet to drop points, and have high aspirations for the campaign. Read on for my Wrexham vs Shrewsbury prediction, accompanied by match odds and team news.

Wrexham are 4/9, or a 69.2% chance, to win this contest. Shrewsbury are 11/2 for the away win, which gives them an implied probability of 15.4%. The draw is available at 3/1 (25%).
Over 2.5 goals can be backed at 4/6 and both teams to score is priced at 5/6.
Wrexham striker Jack Marriott has two goals to his name in League 1 so far, and he is marketed at 13/10 to score anytime on Saturday. You can get 4/1 on the former Peterborough United man to open the scoring.
Shrewsbury forward Tom Bloxham has also found the back of the net on two occasions, and he is 11/2 to score anytime at the Racecourse Ground.
Team News
Midfielder George Evans has missed Wrexham's last two matches and he is a doubt to make the squad for Saturday's clash. Ollie Rathbone returned to the squad at Peterborough having missed the Reading victory the week prior, with the midfielder making an appearance from the bench.
Wrexham fans were glad to see Paul Mullin also make a cameo against Posh, having returned from injury himself.
Shrewsbury look to be without the services of Morgan Feeney and Carl Winchester due to injury, but both have a slight chance to make the bench this weekend, but Paul Hurst might give them more time to recover.
Wrexham to win to nil @ 7/5
Phil Parkinson's side couldn't have asked for a better start in the third tier following their promotion from League 2 - well maybe another win if they're being greedy. Four games, three wins, unbeaten and second in the table. The Red Dragons have laid down a marker as they gun for a third consecutive promotion and they will want to keep their current rhythm going.
While their two closest rivals in Stockport and Birmingham have had their momentum halted by the international break, Wrexham can keep on going and they have a favourable home clash against Shrewsbury this weekend, that could help them move to the summit.
Not only are the Welsh side unbeaten in the league, they have registered three clean sheets in a row against Reading, as well as two of last year's play-off sides in Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough. They have only conceded just two goals too, which caps off an excellent start.
I think their clean sheet run can continue here as although Shrewsbury will be lifted by last week's result, it was against winless Leyton Orient, and Wrexham will be a much tougher opponent.
They did also lose their three matches before that, so I don't think they are suddenly clicking. It will be a difficult match for them and I am expecting Wrexham's quality to shine through and see them leapfrog Stockport to top spot.
Wrexham/Wrexham - Half-time/full-time @ 23/20
I think this can be a comfortable win for the hosts and so the other market I like the look of is the half-time/full-time market, and of course backing the Red Dragons to come out on top in both halves.
Wrexham have played two league games at the Racecourse so far and they won both against Wycombe Wanderers and Reading. Parkinson's men went into half-time 2-0 up in both matches, which has also played into my thinking here.
Their squad is significantly better than the visitors, and I think this will be evident when the two collide on Saturday, and unfortunately for Shrewsbury fans, I don't think their team will be able to lay a glove on Wrexham.
