Eight out of 10 is a good score in a pub quiz and a decent name for a TV show but when it comes to an acca, if two teams let you down then it is no bueno. That is what happened to us last week as Cardiff and Yeovil both failed to find the back of the net.

Hope springs eternal however and I've put together a fivefold coming in at just under 10/1 for Saturday afternoon, so check out my BTTS Tips and why I've picked each leg below...

Saturday BTTS Tips

  • Back BTTS in West Bromwich Albion vs Leeds United at 4/5
  • Back BTTS in Plymouth Argyle vs Hull City @ 8/15
  • Back BTTS in Blackpool vs Stockport County @ 8/11
  • Back BTTS in Ebbsfleet United vs Barnet @ 1/2
  • Back BTTS in Havant & Waterlooville vs Plymouth Parkway @ 8/15
  • Overall Odds - 9.52/1

Leg 1 - West Bromwich Albion vs Leeds United

We start in the Championship, where Leeds make the trip to the Hawthorns on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw with Portsmouth to open the season.

Daniel Farke’s side hit the bar three times and had a penalty, all in the first ten minutes of the game, it is fair to say that they looked good going forward. Still, Pompey scored three times which gives us an indicator that defensively, they aren’t all that robust.

The Baggies also scored three times on opening day. They were on the road at QPR and they had Josh Maja to thank as the Nigerian international scored a hat-trick. I always like Leeds to score and having watched them last week, they are an early contender to be a BTTS juggernaut.

Leg 2 - Plymouth Argyle vs Hull City

Would it be just a little bit too simplistic to say that I’ve added this selection purely because Wayne Rooney’s managerial record is just so poor? It probably would but it is certainly a big factor.

The Pilgrims started life under their new gaffer with a 4-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in a one-sided affair. The visitors had no fewer than 31 shots in that one, with Rooney’s side getting just five attempts away, with just one of them on target. It would be fair to say that there are some question marks at the back. They did bounce back with a 3-0 win against Cheltenham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, which is noteworthy to some degree.

Hull make the long trip down south, having gone two-for-two in terms of BTTS so far this campaign. Give me Plymouth’s issues at the back coupled with Rooney’s first home league game in charge to create a good atmosphere and plenty of scoring opportunities - at both ends.

Leg 3 - Blackpool vs Stockport County

Blackpool put four past ten-man Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup in midweek to give their strikers a bit of confidence after an opening day defeat at Crawley. They lost 2-1 down in Sussex despite having eight more shots than the home side.

I’m of the belief that Stockport County have the real capability of making the play-offs. They won League 2 last season and started their League 1 campaign with a very solid 2-0 home win against Cambridge United. The Hatters scored 96 times last year and I think they’ll be nearly as prolific this time around. The step-up in quality will mean they concede a few more but they should be a strong BTTS play this term.

Leg 4 - Ebbsfleet United vs Barnet

Anytime a goalkeeper picks the ball out of his net five times on the opening day of the season, it would be fair to say that there are question marks about how good his team may be at the back. This is what happened to Ebbsfleet’s Mark Cousins at Gateshead last Saturday as the visitors got a bit of a shellacking up in the North East.

This weekend, they return home to take on one of the favourites for promotion in Barnet. Dean Brennan’s side were surprisingly beaten at Halifax in their opener but importantly, BTTS was a winner.

With Ebbsfleet’s dodgy defence, you have to fancy the Bees to score at least once and I would expect some sort of fire in the belly for the home side to perform a little bit better. I like goals in this one.

Leg 5 - Havant & Waterlooville vs Plymouth Parkway

The Hawks dropped into the Southern League South but they are still training every day and are essentially a full-time team. At this level that is practically unheard of and that should mean that their players are much fitter than the opposition. On Wednesday night, that told as they finished strong to beat Chertsey 3-0 at home.

On Saturday they entertain Plymouth Parkway, who have lost both of their games thus far but have done so whilst being BTTS winners. That is notable and with the hosts having plenty of youth and inexperience in their side, they can be got at defensively. I always like to throw in a seventh-tier game in these pieces and this is the one I've gone for this week.
