Machida Zelvia to beat Yokohama F.Marinos @ 1/1

J-League leaders Machida Zelvia can extend their three-match winning run against a Yokohama side in turmoil after parting company with coach Harry Kewell this week.

The Australian’s departure came amid a disastrous run of results and rumours that the ex-Leeds United star had ‘lost the dressing room’.

Marinos’ four straight defeats to Avispa Fukuoka, Tokyo Verdy, Sagan Tosu and Gamba Osaka got progressively worse with the latter being a particularly heavy 4-0 defeat on the road.

And it proved to be the last straw for the club who reportedly sacked Kewell less than 48 hours after his side had beaten fourth-placed Kashima Antlers 4-1.

Whether that sparks an upturn under caretaker boss John Hutchinson remains to be seen, but Machida Zelvia will be tough to beat on their own patch.

Go Kuroda's side have won five and drawn three of their last eight league games, including a 3-1 away win to the same Gamba Osaka side that thrashed Kewell’s team and now sit in second place in the table.

Djurgardens IF to beat Kalmar FF @ 4/6

Djurgardens are vying for the Allsvenskan title and will try to close the gap to leaders Malmo this weekend when they face struggling Kalmar at Guldfagelm Arena.

The Blue Stripes have won back-to-back games following the league’s resumption while Kalmar fell to defeat against Brommapojkarna last time out.

Djugardens’ upcoming Europa Conference League qualifier against Progres Niederkorn should not be a distraction given how much is at stake for them domestically right now.

Kalmar, on the other hand, are slipping into a worrisome trend of losing without getting a goal.

Caretaker boss Stefan Larsson did guide them to a 2-1 away victory over AIK in his first game in charge, but the subsequent 1-0 loss at home to Brommapojkarna was a setback for a side who have the joint-worst home record in the Allsvenskan.

They lost 5-0 to Malmo and 4-0 to Vasteras before the summer break and look likely to fall to another defeat against a Djurgardens side seeking their fifth away league win on the bounce.

Monza to beat Palermo @ 8/11

Monza are moving towards their third straight Serie A campaign while Palermo are preparing for another campaign in the lower tier after missing out in the Serie B play-offs at the back end of May.

Monza smashed local side Nuova Camunia 16-1 in their first warm-up game of the summer near their training camp base at the ski resort of Pontedilegno-Tonale.

New coach Alessandro Nesta, who replaced Fiorentina-bound Raffaele Palladino, has been easing his new troops into their pre-season work, unlike his Palermo counterpart Alessio Dionisi.

Reports of the Pink and Blacks’ 1-0 friendly defeat to Swiss third-tier outfit Rapperswil-Jona indicated the Palermo players lacked match sharpness due to the training loads imposed on them in pre-season.

Dionisi, who declared himself unhappy with the result, said he expected it to be a difficult game and that many of the players will be rolled out again on Saturday.

It could be another negative result for the Serie B outfit if Monza, who appear to be enjoying life under Nesta, come out firing again.

UD Las Palmas to beat Como @ 23/20

This match, between two sides whose main objective will be to secure safety next term, will take place at the Marbella Football Center.

Las Palmas changed coach in the summer with Luis Carrion coming in after his Oviedo side narrowly missed out on promotion to the top-flight in the play-offs.

Las Palmas have been working more on the tactical side than the physical in Marbella and that should stand them in good stead for this friendly against Serie A newcomers Como.

Coached by Cesc Fabregas, who spent much of the summer at the Euros on media duty, the Blues began their pre-season programme with a 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves dominated that game and could easily have won 3-0, despite playing most of the second half with 10 men after Daniel Podence’s red card.
