Both Hibernian and Queen’s Park got off to impressive starts in their League Cup campaigns and the pair are fancied to put on a show in Edinburgh when they meet.

Football Bet of the Day - Tuesday, July 16

  • Over 3.5 goals in Hibernian v Queen’s Park @ 5/4

Football Odds

It is almost 20 years since Hibernian last won the Scottish League Cup and were edged in the semi-finals last term, but they made the best possible start to this year’s competition with a 5-0 win over Elgin City on Saturday.

They face a tough task in their second game, however, as they host a Queen’s Park side who enjoyed a similar opening romp in a 5-0 success over Peterhead, and will be looking to back that up against this top-flight opposition.

The Spiders have never made it out of the group stages since it was brought into the competition in 2016/17 so that will be their aim this term.

Hibernian vs Queen's Park Odds

Hibs suffered a disappointing campaign last season, finishing eighth in the top flight, which saw managers Lee Johnson and Nick Montgomery both depart over the course of the season.

Perpetual caretaker boss and club legend David Gray was finally given the job on a permanent basis in May and has had the summer to work with his players as he embarks on his first full-time job as a manager.

Gray led the Hibees to their most recent success, netting the decisive goal in stoppage time in the 2015/16 Scottish Cup final win over Rangers and he will be hoping to bring some of that cup prestige to the role.

They got off to the perfect start with a 5-0 win over Elgin City, with Dylan Vente netting a hat-trick.

That continued a solid run of preseason results in which Hibs recorded three wins to nil, including a 1-0 success over PAOK.

They face a Queen’s Park side who also suffered disappointment last term. After missing out narrowly on promotion the season before, the Spiders had to settle for finishing eighth in the Championship in 2023/24.

Callum Davidson is now their manager and he has plenty of history in this competition, guiding St Johnstone to lift the trophy in 2020/21, part of a historic cup double.

The Spiders got off to a fine start to the season with a 5-0 win over Peterhead and also put four past Celtic in a preseason friendly.

They could play their part in what looks set to be a high-scoring affair at Easter Road.

Six of Hibs' last 11 games in this competition have gone over 3.5 goals and a repeat of that is the selection, and both teams should be able to contribute to an exciting cup game.
