Poland vs Ukraine Prediction: Dovbyk to find the back of the net

Poland and Ukraine lock horns in Warsaw on Friday evening (19:45) in what is a warm-up match for both sides ahead of Euro 2024 in Germany. This could be an interesting contest as if things go well for either team in the summer tournament, there is the chance that this clash can take place in the knockout stage.

Below I have outlined my Poland vs Ukraine prediction, including match odds and team news.

Poland are 7/4 to win here, which gives them a 36.4% chance of victory. Ukraine are valued at 13/8, giving them an implied probability of 38.1%. The draw is available at 21/10 (32.3%).

Both teams to score is marketed at 4/5 and over 2.5 goals is on offer at 11/10.

Veteran Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski carries Poland's biggest goal threat and he is priced at 13/10 to score anytime in Warsaw.

Team News

This is Poland's first match since defeating Wales by penalties in the Euro 2024 qualifying play-off. All 11 members of that starting XI are available so I think we could see an unchanged lineup here.

But with a game against Turkey on Monday, we could see alterations so that Michal Probierz gets a better understanding of what his strongest side looks like heading into the Euros.

After having to settle on a place on the bench in the draw with Germany the other day, striker Artem Dovbyk could come into the side to face Poland as he prepares to play a key role for his country this summer.

Georgiy Sudakov, Ruslan Malinovskyi, Sergiy Sydorchuk and Andriy Yarmolenko could also be recalled to action from the get-go.

I am inclined to go with the draw here because both sides' most recent form would suggest that they can cancel each other out. Poland's penalty victory over Wales came after a goalless 120 minutes and Ukraine played out a goalless draw with Germany earlier this week.

And as I have already mentioned this game will see both teams sizing one another out as there is the possibility of them clashing in the knockout stage of the Euros. Both will want to be competitive but in a way that will not risk any injuries to key personnel.

That is why I fancy a stalemate on Friday night, but unlike each of their last encounters, I do see both teams scoring in Warsaw, which could at least add some form of entertainment to the supporters in attendance.

One player I fancy to get on the scoresheet in this fixture is Ukraine forward Dovbyk. He will have been disappointed to have been reduced to a cameo appearance against Germany, so he will want to make a point with a fine attacking display against Poland.

He heads into the summer off the back of an incredible club season with Girona. Dovbyk netted 24 goals in La Liga to secure the prestigious Pichichi Trophy, helping his side qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history.

The striker will be hoping his exploits this season can help improve his goalscoring form on the international stage, having scored eight goals in 26 appearances for Ukraine. I fancy him to add to his tally against Poland, which should set him up nicely for a productive Euros campaign.
