Australia vs Oman Prediction: Tough time for Oman set to continue

Australia lifted the 50-over World Cup title in India last year and will be hoping to repeat the trick in the T20 version of the tournament this time around. They won this competition in 2021 and would love to become just the third team to win it twice.

Oman captain Aqib Ilyas said that there would be no changes to their bowling attack after their defeat at the hands of Namibia, hinting at some changes in their batting lineup

Australia are heavy favourites at 1/66 to get the victory in this clash, with Namibia trading at 25/1 for an unlikely success.

David Warner and Travis Head are joint 11/4 favourites to be Australia Top Run Scorer, while Aqib Ilyas is the clear 3/1 favourite for Oman.

Likely openers Travis Head and David Warner are well found in the Australian top run-scorer market and Head in particular looks a big danger given his success in this year’s Indian Premier League.

However Glenn Maxwell has also been in fine form and his big hitting could be the key to this game.

Maxwell is averaging 51.50 with the bat across his last eight T20I matches at a strike rate of 196.81 and once the Omani bowling attack has been softened up, he could do some real damage.

Side with the 35-year-old, who may even be promoted up the order if the Aussies get off to a good start, to be his side’s top run scorer.

Aqib Ilyas Oman Top Wicket Taker @ 9/2

Aqib Ilyas is a clear standout in this Oman squad as the captain averages 36.42 with the bat when he is leading his team and just 17 with the ball.

He is likely to be the key player if the underdogs are to have any chance of success and he looks a tempting price to be Oman’s top wicket taker, particularly as they might not take many.

Ilyas has taken at least two wickets in seven of his 14 T20 internationals in this calendar year and he could carry that form over into this match.
