Today’s Live Football on TV: What to watch on Thursday 30 May 2024

The domestic football season across Europe may be winding down as we approach the Champions League final this weekend, but we actually have a decent amount of football action on TV to enjoy on Thursday, May 30 2024. We’ve got a Ligue 1 relegation play-off, Serie B action, and England’s Young Lions to enjoy on a packed Thursday night.
Live Football on TV, Thursday, May 30
U17 European Championship quarter-final
Portugal U17 vs Poland U17 (16:00, UEFA.tv)
Italy U17 vs England U17 (18:30, BBC Sport, BBC Red Button)
Ligue 1 relegation play-off
Saint-Etienne (11/10) vs FC Metz (23/10) - Draw (21/10) (19:30, TNT Sports 2)
Serie B play-off final
Cremonese (21/20) vs Venezia (11/5) - Draw (11/5) (19:30, Mola TV)
Let’s do this in chronological order, which means starting with the youngsters. The U17 Euros are currently taking place in Cyprus and we have reached the knockout stage. Up first are Portugal, who won England’s group in style, and thumped the Young Lions 4-1 in their group meeting. They are now serious contenders to win the entire tournament after winning a difficult group, and they face Poland, who came second in Group C.
Having accumulated just one point from their opening two fixtures, Poland beat Slovakia 4-0 in their final game to make it to the quarter-finals, but they will be the underdogs given what we have seen from Portugal so far. That one kicks off at 16:00 on UEFA.tv, but England are in action just a couple of hours later.
They’ve done well to progress from that group, but now they are coming up against one of Europe’s best young sides in the last eight. Italy won three from three in their group, a record only the Czech Republic can match, and will be hoping they can go all the way in Cyprus this summer.
Meanwhile, Tottenham’s Mikey Moore has been the standout so far for England, hitting four goals in the three group games from out wide. If he can continue that good form, the Young Lions have a chance of making it to the semi-finals. This one is live on BBC Sport and via the red button.
In senior football, we have two intriguing play-offs for you to get stuck into, with Betfred offering odds on both. We start with the first leg of the Ligue 1 relegation play-off, which is live on TNT Sports at 19:30.
Saint-Etienne looked on course to secure automatic promotion this season, but a late slip-up allowed Angers to steal their top two spot, and instead they have had to settle for the play-offs. The second-tier side beat Rodez to book their place in this final, and now must beat Metz over two legs to return to the top flight.
Metz only escaped automatic relegation by the skin of their teeth on the final day in Ligue 1. They lost 2-0 to PSG while Lorient won 5-0, yet they finished above them thanks to their superior head-to-head record. Metz have now lost four games in a row and are in dreadful form, so we could see a cracking encounter on Thursday night in this first leg.
In Italy, we have a Serie B play-off final to enjoy between Cremonese and Venezia. This is the first leg of a two-legged affair so nothing will be decided on the night, however one of these teams can take a major step towards promotion with a big win.
Having finished third and fourth in the league, this is the play-off final that they both deserve, but who will come out on top? This one is available on Mola TV, with the vital second leg to be played on Sunday night.
