Nottingham Racecourse

There's lots of action across Britain on Wednesday afternoon to complement Royal Ascot, including Nottingham's evening card which runs from 17:45-20:50 with the ground described as 'good to soft'

My Nottingham tips includes Dark Dreamer for Robert Cowell - a horse with low miles in handicaps and definite scope for a bit better.

Nottingham Tips

  • 18:20 - Dark Dreamer @ 5/1
  • 18:50 - Dandy Dinmont @ 7/1
  • 20:50 - Tigerten @ 4/1

18:20 - Dark Dreamer @ 5/1

After going close on handicap bow at Salisbury (6f, good to firm) eight days ago with an improved effort, Ten Commitments was the early favourite to go one better in this contest for Jamie Osborne.

He's due a 4lb rise in future and has his chance, clearly, if building on that run. It wasn't the strongest of Class 6 events however and, up in grade, further progress may be needed.

DARK DREAMER is preferred for Robert Cowell with Jack Mitchell doing the steering.

The Oasis Dream gelding has a little bit more substance to his form. He won on seasonal/handicap bow at Kempton over 6f on the Polytrack in April and came within a whisker of following up at Windsor (6f, soft) at the end of that month.

Back at Kempton in early May, he again shaped with lots of promise, despite racing a bit keenly and going clear sooner than ideal at that venue.

He rather set it up for Tennessee Gold to claim the prize but that is a race that looks reliable in terms of the overall form and this three-year-old could have more to offer from a 2lb higher mark now.

18:50 - Dandy Dinmont @ 7/1

The losing sequence is stretching out for DANDY DINMONT but Nigel Tinkler's gelding has shaped well in both starts this term and should get his turn again before long.

Those runs have seen him finish second at Beverley (5f, good to firm) and then fourth at Pontefract (5f, good), when only 1¾-lengths off the winner at the post, with all three that finished ahead of him having had the benefit of a prominent racing position throughout.

A winner of handicaps at Redcar and Doncaster in summer 2022, Dandy Dinmont also scored at Newcastle on the Tapeta in October of that year off a mark of 70.

Last August, he was a very pleasing third at Newmarket (5f, good to soft) off a mark of 75 in Class 4 company.

He is a couple of pounds below that rating now and operating in lesser company. If he continues with the promise of those two runs lately, he should get a moment with the judge again soon.

20:50 - Tigerten @ 4/1

The nightcap is the Grassroots Finals Day 2nd October Handicap over 1m6f and TIGERTEN looks the one to be with for Kevin Frost and Benoit de la Sayette.

Things didn't go his way on his turf comeback at Bath in April but he was third behind an in-form rival in Smart Charger at Yarmouth over this trip next time and then ¾-length second at Chester (2m, good to soft) three days later.

He's been fourth since at Pontefract over 2m1f and while he may or not have got the trip, he certainly wasn't helped having his path blocked late on and never quite got going to full effect after that.

He was runner-up over this C&D in May last year off a mark of 68 and now has just his second crack at track and trip from fully 12lb lower. Given the promise he has shown in recent efforts, he looks primed to send punters home from Nottingham happy and in a Betfred Extra Place Race (four places) he looks the reliable option.
