Newbury Racecourse

It's a busy Thursday of Flat action with five meetings in the UK and Ireland as well as a jumps card from Worcester.

Amongst those Flat cards is a bumper nine-race fixture at Newbury where the action starts at 13.45 and concludes at 18.15. I've picked out three selections to follow including for my Newbury tips for Thursday.

Newbury Tips - Thursday, June 13

  • 15:25 - Global Asset @ 5/2
  • 16:30 - Nibras Angel @ 18/1
  • 17:05 - Treacherous @ 5/1

15:25 - Global Asset @ 5/2

The second division of the three-year-old one mile handicap has some horses that may be worth following this season, none more so than GLOBAL ASSET who looks capable of running a big race.

The son of Night Of Thunder showed a good amount of promise as a two-year-old, particularly on his third start at Lingfield when keeping on nicely for third.

That's an effort worth upgrading given that he met some trouble in running, denied a run in the short home straight and finishing his race off in an eye-catching manner. He shaped like a step up in distance could be the real key to him.

William Haggas' gelding all but confirmed that this distance would be his trip when just reeled in late on at Windsor last month, only beaten by a well backed favourite who had the benefit of a recent run behind him.

He also proved that fast ground on turf are probably his ideal conditions and if he comes on for that run here, expect him to be hard to pass.

16:30 - Nibras Angel @ 18/1

The seven-furlong Class 3 handicap might be a bit more open than the betting suggests and it may be worth taking a chance on NIBRAS ANGEL hitting the frame at an each-way sort of price.

The four-year-old filly had run some really nice races in Dubai this winter including a Group 2 third in the Balanchine, and she probably needed her first run off the plane at York when never able to get into it from rear.

She's dropped down to an eye-catching handicap mark of 90 now and there's a chance that the drop back to seven-furlongs will suit, given that her two previous wins came at this distance.

17:05 - Treacherous @ 5/1

TREACHEROUS has been running well in defeat over an insufficient five-furlongs in recent times and he looks a bit over priced stepping back up in trip here.

All of his best turf form is over six-furlongs on fast ground and he's shaped like he would relish a return to this distance on both his runs this season, not beaten far both times.

With the yard hitting form and Oisin Murphy booked, he ought to be capable of running a big race.
