Minella Crooner Grand National Odds 2024: Can he turn around a lacklustre season?

A poor season has certainly changed the outlook for this horse, as a few months ago you would certainly have heard some buzz that this was a potential contender for Aintree.

He would open up his campaign with a solid win over at Wexford, keeping on well in heavy conditions, but after that it has pretty much all been downhill and the expectations that the longer distances would suit certainly haven’t come to fruition.

Next time out he was pulled-up as the 7/2 joint-favourite in a big field at Fairyhouse. The vet reported no problems post-race, it was just that Minella Crooner simply ran out of steam. It was better at Tramore for the Savills New Year's Day Chase, yet a third-place finish isn’t exactly what his team would have been looking for.

His display in the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse though in February was lacklustre, finishing 25 lengths behind one of the Grand National favourites in I Am Maximus.

Remember, Minella Crooner beat this horse back in 2022 at Fairyhouse, so there was certainly some hope that he would go on and develop. Finally for his campaign this term, he would go to the Cheltenham Festival, where he was pulled-up in the Ultima having weakened four out and never really been in contention. So that promise from October has not born fruit so far.
