There are six scheduled meetings across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday. In the afternoon, they race at Ascot, Wolverhampton and Pontefract on the Flat and Punchestown over jumps. The two evening meetings are both Flat affairs from Brighton and Kempton.

I have three fancies to follow in my Wednesday racing tips, including a proven stayer stepping back up in trip in an extended 2m handicap on the all-weather at Wolverhampton.

Wednesday Racing Tips - May 1

  • 13:50 Wolverhampton - Kiss My Face @ 6/4
  • 16:45 Wolverhampton - Wakai Umi @ 5/1
  • 17:05 Brighton - Pannonica @ 9/2

13:50 Wolverhampton - Kiss My Face @ 6/4

KISS MY FACE makes significant appeal in the ten-runner Class 6 extended 2m Amateur Jockeys' Handicap on the all-weather at Wolverhampton.

The seven-year-old is stepping back up to his ideal trip from an exploitable mark of 56.

He won over an extended 2m at Newcastle on the all-weather in March 2023 and followed up over the same distance on the AW at Southwell later that month before completing a hat-trick back at the same course off a mark of 57 that April.

The Nathaniel gelding performed with notable credit when fourth over an extended 1m4f at Newcastle a fortnight ago and is capable of running to a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 67 over this longer distance.

He should take plenty of beating if reproducing that level of form on his first start at Wolverhampton and will have significant assistance in the saddle.

His rider Simon Walker is 33-165 (20%) when riding at Wolverhampton, another significant positive in a race of this nature.

16:45 Wolverhampton - Wakai Umi @ 5/1

WAKAI UMI should take plenty of beating in the concluding Class 6 5f all-weather Handicap from Wolverhampton.

The daughter of the Australian sire Kuroshio arrives 2-6 on the all-weather including when winning a better-class nursery over this course and distance from a 13lb higher rating in November 2022.

The selection was returning from 143 days off the track when fourth over this course and distance at the beginning of April.

She has a much more favourable draw in stall two on this occasion and this is an excellent opportunity to go 3-7 on the all-weather.

17:05 Brighton - Pannonica @ 9/2

Finally, and PANNONICA has an improving profile as she returns to turf in the Class 6 5f three-year-old Handicap at Brighton.

The selection is representing Richard Hannon, a notable 28-129 with his three-year-old runners at Brighton.

Alec Voikhansky is taking over in the saddle and the 3lb-claiming jockey is 34-236 when riding for this handler.

Hannon has a 61% Run-To Form figure in the past 14 days, saddling seven winners in that time, and Pannonica features off a favourable mark of 59 considering she looks all set to improve on the RPR of 63 she registered when an encouraging second at Chelmsford latest.

The daughter of Acclamation should find this 5.5f distance ideal back on grass and is taken to go one place better should that assumption prove accurate.
