Friday Lucky 15 Tips: Nicholls looks to play Robin Hood

Terrific entertainment on offer on Friday, April 19. Jump racing is catered for with Ayr, Fontwell, Limerick, Ballinrobe and Exeter. Flat fans have Newbury and Bath to look forward to. There's truly something for everyone.

It's Scottish National weekend and as a consequence there's fine competition up on the west coast of Scotland. Title-tusslers Dan Skelton and Paul Nicholls do battle in the search for additional prize-money, and the competition generally looks white-hot. It's north of the border we travel then - for our Lucky 15 tips, Friday.

13:20 Ayr -  Phantomofthepoints @ 6/1

Trainer/jockey combo of David Pipe and Jack Tudor have been enjoying a few winners in recent weeks and have another live chance here with Phantomofthepoints. The six-year-old gelding joined David in October from Ireland and very nearly won a maiden hurdle here in December.

After being highly-tried at Ascot in February two solid performances have followed - placed in a Hexham maiden (March) followed by an impressive novice win at Chepstow at the beginning of April.

He's up in class here of course but looks to be going very much the right way. He jumped left a wee bit last time but that won't hopefully inconvenience him too much if repeating the feat at this left-hand track.

14:20 Ayr - Ten Lengths Tom @ 13/2

Handler Tom Lacey and jockey Stan Sheppard are another pair having a successful time of it at the minute, and combine here with Ten Lengths Tom. The five-year-old Mount Nelson gelding tackles three miles for the first time and makes his handicap debut too.

He's lightly-raced, having only his sixth start today, but has shown definite promise, winning a bumper and a maiden hurdle - and at some prestigious venues too. Three of those previous spins have been at Ascot, Warwick and Sandown, and another top track in Ayr is being visited from Lacey's yard in Herefordshire.

Hard to know if his mark of 118 is a help or a hindrance but we'll soon find out! Fascinating little heat.

14:50 Ayr - Outlaw Peter @ 9/2

Now for one of racing's most potent current combinations, with both chasing titles - Paul Nicholls and jockey Harry Cobden. Outlaw Peter runs in the famous Stewart family silks and is an experienced eight-year-old chaser in fine fettle.

34 days ago he won at the trip and in the grade at Kempton, off a mark of 135. He has a career-high of 140 to defy here, but looks capable of so doing to me. He was a hurdler of similar quality but I fancy he'll prove even better over the larger obstacles.

As Nicholls trails Willie Mullins and Dan Skelton in the Trainer standings every penny counts, and with £25k to the winner here that is most definitely not to be sniffed at.

Beat the Skeltons' Flegmatic last time, and he's been in terrific nick.

15:55 Ayr - Rath Gaul Hill @ 11/4

Robbie Dunne rides this gelded six-year-old son of the great King George winner Doyen, for trainer Samuel Drinkwater. He's up 7lb for a cosy win in the class at Newbury last time and that was a career-best.

Always good to get involved with a horse that's performed so well at one of our premier tracks and with a lovely racing weight of just 10st 11lb he can continue on his upward trajectory for me. It's a smashing little contest and Rath Gaul Hill's latest victim, Duhallow Tommy, went into that Newbury race seeking a four-timer. Great chance.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
