Worcester Racecourse

There's six meetings across Britain and Ireland on a busy Thursday, with 43 races scheduled. Flat cards come from Newbury, Nottingham, Yarmouth, Musselburgh and Leopardstown, while the evening jumps fare is provided by Worcester.

Thursday's racing tips includes one at the latter venue who has dropped to a dangerously low rating.

Thursday's Racing Tips

  • 14:20 Newbury - Wild Clary @ 7/1
  • 15:00 Yarmouth - Smart Charger @ 6/5
  • 18:50 Worcester - One More Fleurie @ 10/1

14:20 Newbury - Wild Clary @ 7/1

A novice event over an extended six furlongs is the second contest on Newbury's marathon card and it features some promising newcomers from top yards.

Anno Domini (Charlie Appleby), New Bombay (Andrew Balding) and Seraph Gabriel (Ralph Beckett) command attention in the betting but WILD CLARY could be one to improve on second start for Richard Hannon.

The Dark Angel colt debuted at this track in a 6f maiden last month, going off at 11/1, and was beaten around seven-lengths in a midfield finish.

He was a long way back in that race and finished to good effect. The extra yardage, allied to the experience gained, should stand him in good stead for a better run now.

15:00 Yarmouth - Smart Charger @ 6/5

Later on, look for SMART CHARGER to make it a C&D double for Alan King at Yarmouth.

The Saxon Warrior gelding had to battle last month for his win here as Beggarman applied the pressure late on, but he knuckled down admirably to get the verdict.

A 3lb rise is far from prohibitive now and, given that was his first run beyond 1m4f, he should have more to offer as a stayer.

He stays in Class 6 company and, with first-time cheekpieces and Brandon Wilkie deployed in the saddle to claim 5lb, everything points to further success.

18:50 Worcester - One More Fleurie e/w @ 10/1

I suggest an each-way play on ONE MORE FLEURIE for the Ian Williams yard in this handicap chase over 2m7f.

He had a sparkling time of it in the spring of 2021, winning four times in five starts over fences and looking progressive as he eventually landed on a mark of 138.

He lost his way from that sort of lofty perch but there were reminders in 2023 of his ability, notably when second at Catterick in February and occupying the same berth at Doncaster in December.

He returned to action at Warwick last month with a lacklustre effort over hurdles, but that was liable to be a run he needed after a break.

He has done all his best work over fences and reverting to this discipline should see him in a better light, with Sean Bowen once more a positive jockey booking and a reduced mark of 113.
