Roi Mage Grand National Odds 2024: Another Place a possibility?

Backing Roi Mage to go six places better and win the race this year might be a bit of a stretch but this 12-year-old performed admirably last year and a repeat performance isn’t beyond the realm of possibility.

He’s been lightly-raced this season, having stepped foot on the track just three times since that run at Aintree last spring. He started out with a trip to France and victory in the Grand Steeple-Chase-Cross-Country de Compiegne over at Compiegne. That performance on heavy ground wasn’t too shabby and the fact he won going away showed that he had some stamina left in those legs.

His other two performances though haven’t been nearly as impressive. Roi Mage finished plumb last at Tramore in the Savills New Year’s Day Chase, finishing 58 lengths behind the winner that day and never moved from that last place.

It was a bit better last time out, when he finished second in a five-horse field including Adamantly Chosen, who is also racing at Aintree on Saturday. Sadly though, he would finish 14 lengths behind the winner and despite looking ok, showed no reason to see him as anything but a fringe each-way play on Saturday.
