Burnley vs Newcastle

After appearing to meander towards relegation for much of the campaign, there is suddenly life in Burnley as Premier League survival appears a more than realistic possibility. The Clarets have lost just once in their last eight games and are just a point behind 18th-placed Luton Town and a further point off Nottingham Forest, who could end the weekend in the bottom three.

Vincent Kompany's side face a stern examination of their credentials at Turf Moor on Saturday (KO, 15:00), however, as Newcastle United come to town. Read below for my Burnley vs Newcastle prediction, where you can also find all the latest team news and match odds.

Burnley vs Newcastle Betting Tips

  • First half total goals - Under 0.5 @ 11/4
  • Correct score - Draw 1-1 @ 15/2

Burnley's last Premier League outing saw Zeki Amdouni convert a late penalty to salvage a 1-1 draw at Manchester United, and the Clarets are now unbeaten since April 6, when they lost 1-0 at Everton.

No side has picked up fewer points at home than Burnley this season (10), but the Clarets have shown signs of improvement at Turf Moor, beating Brentford 2-1 there on March 16 and following it up with a couple of 1-1 draws with Wolves and Brighton.

That should fill Kompany and co with confidence this weekend as they face a Newcastle side that has collected just 14 points from 16 league away games - only Sheffield United (six), Luton Town and Nottingham Forest (10) have accrued fewer on their travels.

The Magpies have lost three of their last four away from home in the competition, but they have won four - including a 2-0 victory at Fulham - of their last six Premier League games, home or away.

The most recent of those saw them thrash Sheffield United 5-1 last Saturday, with Alexander Isak helping himself to a brace to move onto 19 league goals in his pursuit of the Golden Boot.

Newcastle were 2-0 winners in September's reverse fixture at St. James' Park, with Isak's second-half penalty adding to Miguel Almiron's 14th-minute opener.

Team News

Burnley are without a host of players on Saturday including Nathan Redmond, Aaron Ramsey, Luca Koleosho, Jordan Beyer and Ameen Al Dakhil.

Newcastle have an even lengthier injury list containing Nick Pope, Sven Botman, Joelinton and Kieran Trippier, to name a few, but there is a chance Miguel Almiron could make his comeback from a five-game absence.

Match Odds

Burnley are 9/4 to claim all three points, giving them an implied win probability of 30.8%, while Newcastle are 10/11 (52.4%) and the draw is 13/5.

Both teams to score, meanwhile, is 4/9.

Betfred are running their famed Double Delight & Hat-trick Heaven offer on this match, meaning that if a player scores first and then nets again, you will be paid at double the odds. If he grabs a hat-trick, you will be paid at treble the odds!

First half total goals - Under 0.5 @ 11/4

There were no goals in the first half of Burnley's draw at Old Trafford last week, despite there being seven shots on target, five from the Clarets, while their last home game, a 1-1 draw with Brighton, also failed to see a strike in the opening 45 minutes.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's last couple of away games - a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace and a 1-0 win against Fulham - produced zero goals in the first half.

We could see another quiet start to the action this weekend, with neither side needing to go gung-ho from the beginning.

Under 0.5 first half total goals in Burnley vs Newcastle at 11-4

Correct score - Draw 1-1 @ 15/2

Burnley have drawn six games 1-1 in the Premier League this season, including three of their last five.

It's been a less common scoreline for Newcastle who have only drawn 1-1 once in the league, but that did come at the start of last month as they were held by Everton at St James' Park.

Their poor away record, coupled with a trip to 1-1 specialists Burnley, could see them draw by that scoreline again.

Correct score - Draw 1-1 in Burnley vs Newcastle at 15-2
