Thursday at Wimbledon brings forth the semi-finals of the women's singles, with 2022 champion Elena Rybakina in action against first-time semi-finalist Barbora Krejcikova.

In the other clash, French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini is looking to reach her first final at the All England Lawn Club, as she goes up against Donna Vekic, with both having performed brilliantly over the past week-and-a-half. I have picked out two selections, one from each match, for my Wimbledon tips on Thursday, July 11.

Wimbledon Tips - Thursday, July 11

Jasmine Paolini to beat Donna Vekic 2-1 @ 11/4

I was left to eat humble pie after I tipped Emma Navarro to beat Paolini in straight sets on Tuesday as the opposite happened. The Italian dominated Navarro, ending what had been an excellent campaign at Wimbledon up until that point.

She has become a part of history as the first female player from Italy to reach a semi-final at the All England Lawn Club. What has been most impressive about her own journey here in the past week is that before this tournament began, she had never won a single tour match on grass. She had failed to get past the first round in her past three appearances here (excluding qualifiers).

With the way she has been playing, you wouldn't think she had a poor record, and that she has enjoyed lots of success on the surface. Perhaps reaching the French Open final last month has unlocked something from her overall game, which looks like she can now seamlessly translate onto any surface.

She now stands a great chance of reaching her second major final in as many months and, unlike in the previous round, I am going to back her. I think she has been showing all the attributes to reach Saturday's final, but Croatian Donna Vekic will have something to say.

Tennis Odds

Vekic has been impressing in south-west London herself. Before this tournament, she had never ventured past the quarter-finals stage of any Grand Slam, accomplishing that feat twice, and never going further than the fourth round at Wimbledon.

She has been one of the most enjoyable players to watch this year, and like Paolini, looks like she was made to play on grass. I do think she can hold her own against Paolini, but I still think the Italian holds the edge to reach a second successive Grand Slam final. I have gone for her to win 2-1.

Jasmine Paolini to win 2-1 at 11/4 Elena Rybakina -1.5 set handicap @ 8/11

After watching Rybakina storm her way to the Wimbledon title two years ago, you felt it wouldn't be the last one she would claim. The Kazakh star's quarter-final exit last year did come as a surprise, but with the added pressure of returning as defending champion, perhaps it was understandable. And she lost to Ons Jabeur, whom she defeated in the final in 2022, with the Tunisian avenging that loss.

It was a setback, and so this summer was always going to be a challenge to see how she responds again. So far she has answered every question that has been thrown at her over the past two years, and in my opinion, she has been playing the best tennis in the women's draw.

Only one of her five matches so far have gone the distance, and her third round victory over Anna Kalinskaya was a walkover. The rest have been straight-set demolitions. I thought she was going to be given a tough test against Elina Svitolina last time out, but it was still too easy for Rybakina.

Czech Republic star Barbora Krejcikova will be high on confidence after her straight-sets triumph over Jelena Ostapenko, but she knows that Rybakina will present an entirely different level of challenge.

She did look strong against both Ostapenko and American Daniell Collins in the previous round, but she will need to be at her very best to deny Rybakina a second Wimbledon final appearance.

Sadly for the 2021 French Open champion, I think her wait for a Wimbledon final will continue as I think Rybakina is too strong, and is playing some of her best tennis - arguably better than when she won here two years ago.

With her odds to win outright not offering much value, I have gone for Rybakina to win with a -1.5 handicap as I believe she can win again in straight sets.
