In a repeat of the 2021 US Open final, Daniil Medvedev will take on Novak Djokovic to battle it out for the 2023 crown.

Djokovic beat home favourite Ben Shelton in straight sets to book his place in Sunday’s finale, while Medvedev overcame Carlos Alcaraz in a four-set thriller.

Set Betting – Novak Djokovic 3-1 @ 11/4

This will be the third meeting between Djokovic and Medvedev in a Grand Slam final, with the most recent outing being the 2021 US Open final, where the latter emerged victorious.

The pair also met in the 2021 Australian Open final, that was won by Djokovic, and both encounters were won in straight sets.

Apart from a third-round scare against Laslo Djere where he had to fight back from two sets down, Djokovic has cruised to the final, winning every other match in straight sets.

Medvedev has dropped a set in three of his matches, including in his semi-final clash with Carlos Alcaraz, but his confidence will be high after toppling the Spaniard, and it proves that Medvedev can still hang with the very best.

I find it difficult to back against Djokovic in any Slam final these days, but I think Medvedev can put up a fight, which is why I’m backing the Serbian to win in four sets.

First set total games over 9.5 @ 4/6

As with most major finals, the first set is usually a cagey one, with both players desperate not to lose serve and give away any early break points.

I’ve referenced the 2021 Australian Open and US Open finals between these two above, and this bet landed in both of those matches.

Djokovic won the opening set in Melbourne 7-5, while Medvedev took the first set at Flushing Meadows 6-4, so I’m anticipating another close start to this match.

Both men are strong servers and break points could be few and far between early doors.
