Tennis Betting Tips: Diallo to get up and running in Toronto

We came close to a full house in Tuesday's Tennis Betting Tips, with Anna Kalinskaya beating Ann Li 2-1 to land a 3/1 winner, and over 23.5 total games between Reilly Opelka and Tomas Machac seeing the 5/6 selection land. However, Leylah Fernandez let us down, as she lost 2-0 to Maya Joint.
In Wednesday's Tennis Betting Tips, I turn my full attention to Toronto, where the Canadian Open men's singles take place.
Tennis Betting Tips - Wednesday, July 30
- Game Handicap - Adrian Mannarino (FRA) +4.5 vs Ben Shelton (USA) @ 5/6
- Set Betting - Gabriel Diallo (CAN) 2-0 vs Matteo Gigante (ITA) @ 5/6
- Set Betting - Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ESP) 2-1 vs Corentin Moutet (FRA) @ 11/4

Game Handicap - Adrian Mannarino (FRA) +4.5 vs Ben Shelton (USA) @ 5/6
After beating close friend and fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the Washington Open quarter-finals, Ben Shelton appeared destined for a tilt at the title in the final. However, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina put paid to those hopes in the semis, beating the 22-year-old 6-2, 7-5.
Shelton now shifts his attention to the Canadian Open in Toronto, where he will aim to rebuild his confidence following the disappointing defeat.
He exited the competition at the second round in Montreal last year, so he will be eyeing a deeper run this time around.
His opponent on Wednesday, Adrian Mannarino, was impressive on Monday, surprising another American, Marcos Giron, in straight sets (6-4, 6-4).
The 37-year-old will find life much tougher in the second round against the big-serving Shelton, but his return game is strong, though breaking the World No. 7 might be beyond him.
Still, I fancy the Frenchman to avoid a heavy defeat, with a +4.5 handicap at 5/6 appealing. Mannarino could lose 4-6, 4-6, and this tip would still land as Shelton would only have won four more games.
This selection has been a winner for Shelton's last three opponents, too.

Set Betting - Gabriel Diallo (CAN) 2-0 vs Matteo Gigante (ITA) @ 5/6
Gabriel Diallo was an unfortunate victim of Shelton in the last 16 of the Washington Open last week, losing 3-6, 2-6 last Thursday.
The Canadian will be looking to make a big impression in his biggest home event of the year, though, and Matteo Gigante shouldn't pose him too many problems in the second round on Wednesday.
Gigante overcame Borna Coric (4-6, 6-2, 7-6) in the first round in Toronto, but has only one second-round win to his name this year, beating an out-of-sorts Stefano Tsitsipas (6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4) at Roland Garros in May.
The Italian did beat Diallo 6-4, 6-4 in their first head-to-head at Wimbledon in June 2023, but in their second and most recent meeting, on hard court at the 2024 Canberra Tennis International in January last year, the Canadian emerged triumphant in straight sets (7-6, 6-2).
I expect something similar to take place in Toronto this week.

Set Betting - Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ESP) 2-1 vs Corentin Moutet (FRA) @ 11/4
Davidovich Fokina suffered heartbreak again in the Washington Open final last Sunday, failing to capitalise on three match points against Alex de Minaur (7-5, 1-6, 6-7). It was the second time this calendar year that the Spaniard had given up multiple match points and lost in a final, and he has now lost all ATP finals he has played in.
The 26-year-old must be suffering mentally and physically after his exertions at the tournament, with two of his last three matches going to three sets.
On Wednesday, he comes up against Washington Open semi-finalist Corentin Moutet, who only entered the tournament as a lucky loser. The Frenchman certainly made the most of the opportunity, beating Alexandre Muller (6-0, 6-1) and Dan Evans (6-2, 7-6) in straight sets before overcoming Daniil Medvedev 2-1 (1-6, 6-4, 6-4) in the quarters, only to be stopped by De Minaur (4-6, 3-6) in the semis.
The 26-year-old is now up to 46 in the ATP rankings, and he will be eyeing another deep run in Toronto this week after beating Jenson Brooksby (6-2, 6-1) in the first round on Tuesday.
I think Mouter can cause Davidovich Fokina a few problems, and taking a set off him is definitely achievable.
However, despite the disappointment of last weekend, Davidovich Fokina's confidence should be up after a great tournament in the USA, where he beat three Americans, including Taylor Fritz (7-6, 3-6, 7-5) and Shelton (6-2, 7-5).
It's likely to be a tough slog on Wednesday, but I'm backing the Spaniard to come through with the victory in three sets.
