Tennis Betting Tips: Vekic to overcome second-round setback

It's day four of the 2025 French Open on Wednesday, and ahead of the action at Roland-Garros, I've picked out three selections to consider if you're fancying a midweek flutter.
Below are my Tennis Betting Tips for Wednesday, May 28, with a couple of picks from the Women's Singles and one from the Men's Singles.
Tennis Betting Tips - Wednesday, May 28

- Set Betting - Donna Vekic 2-1 vs Bernarda Pera @ 11/4
- Set Betting - Frances Tiafoe 3-1 vs Pablo Carreno Busta @ 3/1

Total Games - Under 19.5 in Anna Bondar vs Elina Svitolina @ 8/11
World No.14 Elina Svitolina outclassed her opponent, Zeynep Sonmez, in the first round of the French Open on Sunday, beating the Turk 2-0 (6-1, 6-1) and losing just two games.
The Ukrainian returns to action on Wednesday, with Hungarian Anna Bondar standing between her and the third round. Bondar beat German Laura Siegemund in straight sets (7-6, 6-3) on the tournament's opening day, but she's a huge underdog to progress in midweek.
Svitolina has been in solid form this year, making the semi-finals of the Madrid Open, where she lost to World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka (3-6, 5-7), and the quarter-finals of the Italian Open, where Peyton Stearns beat her 2-1 (2-6, 6-4, 6-7).
It's highly unlikely Svitolina will be able to get the job done in 12 games on Wednesday, but backing under 19.5 makes a lot of sense here.
It was a winning selection in all four of her victorious matches at the Madrid Open in April, and she should get this one over the line fairly simply.

Set Betting - Donna Vekic 2-1 vs Bernarda Pera @ 11/4
Donna Vekic had to work for her first-round victory over Anna Blinkova (7-5, 6-7, 6-1) on Sunday, but after a tough first set and a tie-breaker defeat in the second, she showed her class with a 6-1 final-set success.
Next up for the Croatian is a match against American Bernarda Pera, who beat local player Caroline Garcia in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) on Monday. Pera has been inconsistent this year, but she won the opening set against World No.23 Beatriz Haddad Maia at the Madrid Open last month before falling to a 2-1 defeat (6-2, 3-6, 1-6).
The 30-year-old also boasts a 100% record against Vekic, beating the World No.19 in three sets on both occasions they have met, the most recent of which was at Roland-Garros in June 2023.
That winning record might not be extended this year, however, with Vekic expected to get one up on her opponent.
Still, Vekic, who has dropped at least one set in her last four clay court matches, could be tested by the American on Wednesday, and so 11/4 on the Croatian to win 2-1 looks like value.

Set Betting - Frances Tiafoe 3-1 vs Pablo Carreno Busta @ 3/1
World No.16 Frances Tiafoe comfortably saw off the first-round threat of Roman Safiullin on Sunday, winning in straight sets (6-4, 7-5, 6-4).
Next up for the American is a Wednesday second-round meeting with Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta, who didn't drop a set on Sunday, either, beating Francisco Comesana (6-2, 7-6, 7-5).
Carreno Busta failed to trouble Arthur Fils at the Barcelona Open last month, losing in straight sets (6-7, 3-6), but later in April, at the Madrid Open, he took the first set off Nuno Borges (7-6, 6-7, 3-6) and forced him to another tiebreaker in the second.
Tiafoe shouldn't have too many issues dealing with the 33-year-old, who is in the latter stages of his career, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him drop a set, as concentration can be an issue at times.
