Set Betting - Jaime Faria 2-1 vs Stan Wawrinka @ 5/2

The next stop on Stan Wawrinka's farewell tour is Gstaad, where he holds a 6-10 record on the clay. The Australian Open (2014), French Open (2015) and US Open (2016) champion has suffered back-to-back first-round exits in Gstaad, losing 3-6, 2-6 to Alexander Shevchenko last year, and he's in poor form heading into his final trip there this week.

Wawrinka has lost seven of his last nine matches, not including the walkover handed to Pablo Carreno Busta in Rome where the 41-year-old pulled out of his second-round qualifier due to injury.

Dating back to July 2025, the Swiss veteran has lost nine of his last 12 matches on clay, six of those in straight sets.

Tennis Odds

On Tuesday, he takes on the in-form Portuguese No. 2 Jaime Faria, who enjoyed a positive clay and grass swing, making the third round at Roland-Garros and the second round at Wimbledon after coming through the qualifying rounds of both tournaments.

A first-round match in Gstaad against a former French Open champion, who will enjoy the support of a home crowd, sounds daunting for Faria, but Wawrinka is no longer the force he once was, as evidenced by his results this year, and so this is a contest where the World No. 92 actually enters as a firm favourite in the odds.

It may not be a walk in the park, with Wawrinka determined not to embarrass himself in front of his adoring fans and, on occasion, showing glimpses of the talent that once saw him rise to third in the rankings in a golden era of the men's game.

Wawrinka could claim a set in Gstaad, but that's about as good as it will get, I think, with 22-year-old Faria expected to power through in a third.

Set Betting - Ignacio Buse 2-1 vs Stefano Tsitsipas @ 13/5

Elsewhere in Gstaad, former World No. 3 and 2021 French Open finalist Stefano Tsitsipas faces rising Peruvian star Ignacio Buse, who is seeded fifth here.

Twenty-two-year-old Buse is on his highest-ever ranking of 33rd after a breakout year which has included an ATP 500 title at the Hamburg Open in May.

Like many South Americans, Buse is most at home on clay, which is probably why he'll be relieved to return to the surface after failing to collect back-to-back wins on grass, ending the swing with a 3-3 record. One of those victories actually came against Greek No. 1 Tsitsipas, who he beat 7-6, 6-3 in Mallorca last month in their first-ever meeting.

Tsitsipas' decline over the last few years has been well documented, and his current ranking of 87 says it all. He recently split - again - with his dad, Apostolos, as coach, announcing a new structure involving Serena Williams' former mentor, Patrick Mouratoglou.

The 27-year-old has shown flashes of his talent on clay this year, notably beating eighth seed Alexander Bublik 6-2, 7-5 in Madrid in April, and taking a specialist on the surface, 2022 and 2023 French Open finalist Casper Ruud, to a deciding set in the last 16 of the same event (7-6, 6-7, 6-7).

Tsitsipas is a big server, which always gives him half a chance, even when he's not on top of his game, so he certainly has the tools to win at least a set on Tuesday.

Buse, though, is no stranger to a gruelling encounter. He's 22-15 this year, 16-10 on clay, and 17 of his best-of-three matches have gone to a deciding set, with the Peruvian ending up victorious in 10.

I fancy Buse's stamina and tenacity to come to the fore in the third set on Tuesday, in what would be another nail in the coffin for Tsitsipas' 2026.
