US Open Betting Tips: Evans can put up a fight

There is more third-round action at the US Open at Flushing Meadows, New York on Saturday with men's top seed Jannik Sinner headlining the day's play.

Sinner is up against Christopher O'Connell, who is one of four Australian men through to the third round, the first time that has happened since 1997.

Here is a look at three tennis betting tips for Saturday, August 31.

Game Handicap - Dan Evans +6.5 @ 1/1 

Alex De Minaur is leading the Australian charge at this year's US Open but he could face some resistance in the third round against British ace Dan Evans.

De Minaur has dropped just one set in the first two rounds in New York but he is not at maximum fitness and continues to be troubled by the hip injury which forced him to withdraw from Wimbledon.

He is not operating at 100% as it stands and Evans can capitalise when they meet at Flushing Meadows.

Evans's opening match at this year's US Open was a marathon. He defeated Karen Khachanov in the longest match in the tournament's history after five hours and 35 minutes, but he followed up with a straight-sets win against Mariano Navone and should not be taken lightly.

Evans leads the head-to-head with De Minaur 3-0 with all of those victories coming on hard courts and he can at least cover the games handicap when they reconvene.

Match Betting - Jordan Thompson to beat Matteo Arnaldi @ 10/11 

Another Australian excelling at the US Open is Jordan Thompson, who can match his best ever run at Flushing Meadows by beating Matteo Arnaldi in the third round.

Thompson ensured he had plenty of hard-court practice under his belt going into this season's final Grand Slam, having reached the final of the Atlanta Open, the quarter-finals of the Washington Citi Open and the last 16 of the Cincinnati Masters.

And he will be high on confidence after his rousing straight-sets win over seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz.

Arnaldi is 30th seed at Flushing Meadows but is worth taking on against Thompson, who looks determined in the Big Apple.

Set Betting - Liudmila Samsonova to win 2-1 vs Ashlyn Kruger @ 11/4 

Liudmila Samsonova reached the fourth round of the US Open in 2022 and she can match that run with victory over Ashlyn Krueger.

The 16th seed has already made pretty light work of Qian Wang and Marie Bouzkova at Flushing Meadows, although she was taken to three sets by Bouzkova last time out.

Samsonova reached the quarter-finals of both the WTA Toronto and the WTA Cincinnati heading into the US Open and looks a solid enough bet to win but she may not have things all her own way.

Krueger will have a home crowd behind her and she impressed in her 6-1 6-4 demolition of 21st seed Mirra Andreeva last time out, so she can take this contest to three sets.
