Iga Swiatek is 1/20 to win on Saturday, while Jasmine Paolini is priced at 8/1 to emerge triumphant.
Jasmine Paolini +6.5 on game handicap @ 11/10
There is a widespread expectation of a one-sided final, but those preconceptions could be shattered by a determined Paolini, who is unlikely to be in the mood to be swept aside.
Paolini has had to work hard and wait a long time for her big moment and punters should not be put off by her previous battles against Swiatek which have been easily won by the Polish player.
The Italian has crossed paths with Swiatek on two occasions, losing out 6-2 6-1 at the 2018 Prague Open and 6-3 6-0 in the first round of the 2022 US Open.
But she is a completely different player these days having made incredible strides over the last 12 months.
After years of unremarkable performances, Paolini began to make some headway last year by breaking into the world’s top 30.
She has made even bigger strides in 2024, reaching the Australian Open fourth round and winning the Dubai Tennis Championships, and will be a top ten player for the first time when the rankings are updated next week.
Swiatek’s season has been stronger with titles collected at Doha, Indian Wells, Madrid and Rome, and her record at Roland Garros, where she is on a 20-match winning streak, would be daunting for any opponent.
However, her third contest with Paolini should be more even than the previous three and the value call is to side with the Italian in receipt of a 6.5-game handicap advantage.
Iga Swiatek to win 2-1 @ 9/2
Swiatek needed three sets to overcome Karolina Muchova in last year’s French Open final and she might have to go the distance against Paolini this weekend.
The Italian will be looking to make the contest as competitive as possible and has shown throughout the tournament that she can deliver when the big moments arrive.
The 28-year-old saved six break points in her semi-final success over Mirra Andreeva and her impressive mental strength could help her to make a decent fist of the final.
