The snooker season is in full swing and Betfred's tipster Craig Edwards shares his top bets for the Riyadh Season Snooker Championship, which starts on Wednesday in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

With that in mind, here are his Riyadh Season Snooker Championship 2025 Predictions...

History, Location and Format

The Riyadh Season Snooker Championship is the 3rd running of this event and is open to the top 10 professionals, plus two Saudi wildcard amateurs, for a massive £ 250,000 first prize.

There is also a special price for a maximum break that the tournament introduced last year, with a special 20-point gold ball called the "Riyadh Season ball", which could only be potted after a player had completed the 147 break to extend the break to 167.

The Golden Ball is positioned in the middle of the baulk cushion, which will add a new dynamic and difficult final hurdle, but with a prize of $1,000,000, you can expect all the professionals to be aware of going after the bumper payout at every opportunity

The defending champion is Mark Allen, who beat Luca Brecel 5-1 in the 2024 final.

Riyadh Season Snooker Championship Odds

1 pt Ronnie O'Sullivan each-way @ 13/2

The bottom half is loaded with Shaun Murphy involved in the wild card match for the right to play Ronnie O’Sullivan. The winner of that match will face off with the world champion, Zhao Xintong, in the quarter final.

The other quarterfinal is Judd Trump v Mark Williams, which makes the bottom section significantly more open.

Interestingly, Ronnie O’Sullivan’s price is the one that jumps out as a shrewd value at the price, given his dominant record versus Shaun Murphy and potentially Mark Williams in the semi-final.

It is a very rare occasion that “the Rocket” is valuable, and the one of the few times that I can remember being able to bet the snooker GOAT.

Given how much the Saudi fans love him and his local academy, which he opened last year and named after himself, with which he is intensely proud, I expect the seven-time world champion to be fully focused this week.

Don’t forget he wowed those fans earlier in the year with two 147 breaks in the same match, when beating Chris Wakelin in the semi-final of the Saudi Arabia Masters only a couple of months ago.

Certainly, winning four matches in this price range is unheard of for Ronnie since his initial professional tournaments back in 1992.

Take the Betfred price on Ronnie O’Sullivan, who is worth an each-way play at 1/3 odds for two places.

1 pt Ding Junhui each way @ 16/1

The draw for the Riyadh Snooker Championship appears somewhat lopsided, with the bottom half featuring in-form players, whereas the top half appears open to a winner from Mark Allen, John Higgins, Ding Junhui, Kyren Wilson, or Neil Robertson.

The player who grabs my attention is Ding Junhui, who has the luxury of a wild-card match. Now, when the tour visits China, wildcard matches are notoriously difficult, but in Saudi Arabia, where snooker is relatively new, the match is a formality and, importantly, provides the professional with extra practice.

That scenario could be perfect for Ding, who is likely to be in top form after an encouraging International Championship, where the Chinese superstar made eight century breaks in the three matches he won.

After the wild card round, Ding will play John Higgins and whoever wins that match, I fancy strongly to beat Mark Allen, who only managed to pot one ball last week when losing 4-0 at the Champion of Champions.

Ding’s beloved UK Championship is on the Horizon as the next tournament, also, so there is a lot in favour of China’s elder statesman this week.

Outright - Winner
Ding Junhui
