It’s been a disastrous Super Rugby Pacific season for the NSW Waratahs, who know no matter what the score on Friday morning (10:35 kick-off) against old rivals the Reds, they will be finishing the campaign bottom of the table. While it’s the future of the Melbourne Rebels that is in serious doubt due to finances, the Waratahs have been by far the poorest Australian team in the competition this season.

With just two wins to their name this season, the Waratahs’ campaign looks set to go out with a whimper against a Reds side that will be heading to Allianz Stadium looking to build up some winning momentum before the finals.

Waratahs vs Reds Betting Tips

  • Reds -13 handicap @ 5/4
  • Over 55.5 total points @ Evs

Team News

Starting with the Waratahs, Paddy Ryan has been called up due to a long list of injured front-rowers at the Sydney outfit.

Ned Hanigan is out due to a back issue but Tom Ross, Lachlan Swinton and Miles Amatosero have all been brought into the pack.

It’s set to be a big day for Jack Bowen as he prepares to make his first start in Super Rugby Pacific at fly-half, while it’s farewell to Mark Nawaqanitawase as he makes his last appearance for the Tahs before switching codes to the NRL.

As for the Reds, Joe Brial and Connor Vest have been called up to the starting line-up at number eight and in the second-row respectively.

At fly-half, head coach Les Kiss has gone with Lawson Creighton in the starting role, with fellow stand-off Tom Lynagh set to make an impact off the bench.

Match Odds

The Waratahs are 18/5 to claim the bragging rights and what would be their third win of the season on Friday morning.

The Reds are available at 2/9 to head back to Queensland with the victory, while a draw at Allianz Stadium is currently 22/1.

Reds -13 handicap @ 5/4

With the Waratahs the only team in Super Rugby Pacific who are not either in the finals, or have a chance of making them, it’s been a season to forget for head coach Darren Coleman and his players.

The Reds have won six of their last eight games against the Tahs and will be eager to add to their woes on Friday, while also building up confidence before the finals.

Queensland have won their last two away matches in New South Wales and can make it three on the bounce this week, while falling on the right side of the -13 handicap.

Over 55.5 total points @ Evs

The Reds head into this game on the back of a 59-13 win over Western Force and another high-scoring encounter looks to be on the cards in Sydney.

With a -127 points differential, the second worst in their history, the Tahs defence has been hugely disappointing this season and the Reds can take advantage.

Expect plenty of tries in Sydney and the game to pass over 55.5 total points, over what could feel like a very long 80 minutes for the hosts.
