Fiji vs England Prediction: Earl to lord it over stubborn Islanders

Round two of the inaugural Nations Championship sees Fiji and England bid to bounce back from opening-weekend losses when they meet at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday (2:10pm BST, live on ITV1).

England have won nine of their last 10 fixtures against Fiji so perhaps no surprise, even allowing for their form, that they are 1/20 favourites.

You can have 17/2 Fiji if you fancy an upset while Borthwick's men are a 20/21 chance -21 on the three-way handicap where Fiji are 5/6.

Fiji have made nine changes to the team which lost to Wales with Simione Kuruvoli and Caleb Muntz a new pairing at half-back.

Bristol's Kalaveti Ravouvou comes in for the injured Semi Radradra at outside centre.

Exeter's Henry Slade returns at outside centre to win his 76th England cap, enabling Tommy Freeman to shift out to the wing.

Guy Pepper replaces Tom Curry at openside flanker in the only other change made by Steve Borthwick.

England to win by 16-20 points @ 11/2

England should be too hot for Fiji to handle at the Hill Dickinson Stadium though this could easily turn into an awkward afternoon for Borthwick's men.

The Fijians were holding firm at 10-10 at the break in Cardiff against Wales last week and showing all their attacking flair and endeavour.

But eventually Wales' pack got a grip on proceedings and ground Fiji down with three of their six tries coming from rolling mauls.

Eventually Fiji lost by 15 points and something similar, maybe marginally more emphatic, is on the cards at Everton FC.

Remember this is not a full-strength England - skipper Maro Itoje is among a number of big players missing - who have lost five on the bounce and travelled half way across the world and back for this shootout. Fiji have travelled up from Cardiff.

There should be plenty of tries in this game - Fiji will always err towards offence over defence and England need to turn on the style if only to ease the mounting pressure on Borthwick.

What Wales did to Fiji, especially in the second period, of last week's match in Cardiff will certainly encourage England to believe they can overpower the South Sea Islanders.

England's new-look back row of Ollie Chessum, Guy Pepper and Ben Earl can expect to be the last word on plenty of driving mauls, with all three serious considerations for try scorer bets.

Earl has scored three tries for England over the past 12 months plus another five for Saracens so gets a firm thumbs-up.
